Young guests exploring the EPCOT World Showcase will find one less stop on their scavenger hunt this fall, as Walt Disney World Resort quietly removed an interactive station from the Mexico Pavilion pyramid in the wake of a nearby shop closure.
A Merchandise Stand Disappears Completely
The changes trace back to late August, when Disney Dining reported that cast members had confirmed the Oaxacan wood-carving shop inside the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion pyramid was permanently closing. The small stand, located near the entrance to the Plaza de los Amigos, specialized in hand-carved wooden animal figures crafted from timber sourced in Mexico’s Oaxacan Valley.
Before its official closure on August 31, Disney cast members had marked down remaining inventory with hand-written 50%-off signs.
The Kidcot Stop Vanishes, Too
On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that the shop’s former location had been completely cleared out just one day after closing, leaving behind only a large barrel and a lamppost. Guests are currently allowed to stand in the now-vacant space.
Walt Disney World Resort has also dismantled the nearby Kidcot stop, part of the interactive World Showcase scavenger hunt for younger EPCOT guests. Velvet ropes now block off the area entirely, preventing access to what was once a popular stamp-collecting stop for kids working through their EPCOT “passports.”
What Comes Next?
Disney has not announced a replacement for the Kidcot stop in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion, leaving a gap in this kid-focused EPCOT activity for the time being. The company also hasn’t explained its reasoning behind closing both the wood-carving shop and the Kidcot stop, and there’s no confirmation yet on whether or when the interactive station might return.
