Rainforest Cafe’s Permanent Closure Date Suddenly Changes at Disney

Disney guests have been given an unexpected extension for one of the resort’s longest-running restaurants.

For years, Disney Village has been steadily shedding many of the venues and design choices that defined the entertainment district in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Planet Hollywood closed permanently in January 2023. Café Mickey was replaced by Brasserie Rosalie later that year, while King Ludwig’s Castle became The Royal Pub, and the old McDonald’s was replaced with a contemporary new restaurant.

The retail lineup has changed, too.

Disney Style, Disney Glamour, and Deco by Disney have all opened as part of the overhaul. The Sports Bar & Lounge returned with a redesigned interior in 2025, while the original Disney Store closed in January 2026 and is being converted into Disney Wonders.

More projects remain underway, including a major refurbishment of Annette’s Diner and the construction of Casa Giulia, a two-story Italian restaurant expected to open by the end of 2026.

One of Disney Village’s most recognizable restaurants is also preparing to disappear.

Its final day, however, is no longer happening when originally expected.

Rainforest Cafe Will Remain Open Beyond September

Rainforest Cafe at Disney Village, located beside Disneyland Paris, is now expected to remain open until November 2026.

The restaurant had previously been scheduled to close permanently on September 15.

That timeline has now been pushed back by around two months, giving guests additional time to visit before the restaurant shuts its doors for good.

A precise November closure date has not yet been announced.

The extension is notable because Rainforest Cafe has operated at Disney Village since 1999, making it one of the district’s longest-standing restaurants.

It is also one of the most heavily themed venues still operating there.

Guests enter a recreation of a tropical rainforest filled with artificial foliage, waterfalls, large aquariums, animatronic animals, jungle sounds, and simulated thunderstorms.

Its menu follows the American-style formula familiar from other Rainforest Cafe locations, with burgers, ribs, pasta, fajitas, sharing plates, cocktails, and oversized desserts.

Reviews often single out the atmosphere as the restaurant’s biggest strength.

Rainforest Cafe currently holds a 4.3-out-of-five rating on Google and 3.7 out of five on Tripadvisor. Guests regularly praise its immersive setting and appeal for families with picky eaters, although criticism frequently focuses on high prices, uneven food quality, and slower service.

The restaurant’s eventual closure will leave another gap in Disney Village as Disneyland Paris continues rebuilding the area around newer dining, shopping, and entertainment concepts.

Disney has not yet announced what will replace Rainforest Cafe.

Disney’s Rainforest Cafe History Is Getting Smaller

Rainforest Cafe and Disney have shared a relationship stretching back 30 years.

The first Rainforest Cafe on Disney property opened at Walt Disney World’s Downtown Disney Marketplace in 1996, taking over the site previously occupied by Chef Mickey’s.

A second Walt Disney World restaurant at the entrance of Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 1998.

The brand then expanded internationally, opening at Disney Village in 1999 and at Ikspiari near Tokyo Disney Resort.

Disneyland Resort also received its own elaborate location at Downtown Disney in 2001.

That restaurant eventually became the biggest casualty of Rainforest Cafe’s Disney footprint.

Disney closed the Disneyland location in June 2018 while preparing to redevelop part of Downtown Disney for a proposed luxury hotel.

The hotel was later canceled following a dispute between Disney and the City of Anaheim, but Rainforest Cafe did not return.

Several Disney-connected locations still survive.

Walt Disney World continues operating Rainforest Cafe restaurants at Disney Springs and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, while Tokyo’s Ikspiari remains home to Japan’s only location.

Disney Village will join Disneyland Resort in losing its Rainforest Cafe once the Paris restaurant finally closes in November.
