EPCOT guests are running out of time to visit one of the more unusual shopping spots in World Showcase.
Disney World changes constantly, and EPCOT has seen plenty of that movement in recent years. Major attractions get updated, restaurants come and go, and new experiences take over familiar spaces. But some closures feel different because they involve the smaller details guests have grown accustomed to seeing during every trip.
That’s the case with a shop inside the Mexico Pavilion.
The Oaxacan Wood Carvings store is preparing to close permanently, leaving guests with only a few more days to stop inside before it’s gone.
The Mexico Pavilion Shop Is Closing September 1
The Oaxacan Wood Carvings shop will close on September 1, meaning its final operating day comes just before that date.
Guests who make it there before the closure will find a significant discount. Merchandise inside the store is currently 50% off as the location prepares to shut down.
Disney has not revealed why the shop is closing, and there is currently no confirmed replacement for the location.
That leaves the future of the space up in the air.
While other shopping opportunities remain throughout the Mexico Pavilion, this particular store offered something much different from the typical Disney merchandise guests see across the parks.
The Carvings Made This Store Different
One reason this closure stands out is the craftsmanship behind the merchandise.
The figures sold inside the store are handmade from Copal wood harvested in southern Mexico’s Oaxacan Valley. Artists carve the figures with tools including machetes and pocketknives before sanding and painting each creation. Many of the finished pieces combine elements of real animals and mythical creatures.
That gave the shop an identity of its own.
Guests weren’t simply walking inside to find another wall of Disney shirts, character plush toys, or Mickey ears. Instead, the store offered handcrafted pieces connected to the culture represented by the pavilion.
That’s also part of what has made World Showcase shopping so interesting over the years.
Visitors can move from pavilion to pavilion and discover merchandise that changes dramatically depending on where they stop. The stores help make each country feel different, even for guests who aren’t planning to buy anything.
Losing one of those specialized shops may seem small compared to an attraction closure, but it still changes part of the experience.
Other Mexico Pavilion Shopping Will Remain
Fortunately, this isn’t the end of shopping inside the Mexico Pavilion.
Other stores will continue offering souvenirs, so guests will still have plenty to browse while exploring the pavilion.
The bigger mystery involves what happens to the Oaxacan Wood Carvings location after September 1.
Disney hasn’t announced whether another shop will replace it or whether the space could be used for something different.
For now, guests can only enjoy the location while it lasts.
EPCOT has undergone plenty of changes, and more are coming. While the biggest projects naturally receive most of the attention, smaller closures like this one can be just as noticeable for frequent visitors.
The Oaxacan Wood Carvings store was a small piece of the Mexico Pavilion, but it offered something guests couldn’t necessarily find in another Disney World gift shop.
Anyone hoping to visit one last time doesn’t have much longer.
