Frontierland Location Closure Status Updated After Flooding Event at Magic Kingdom
Frontierland’s merchandise shop is back in business after a rough few days dealing with unexpected water damage.
Magic Kingdom is in the middle of a massive transformation right now. Between the upcoming Piston Peak National Park, themed to the Cars franchise, and the newly revealed Villains Land, complete with a Maleficent coaster, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Frontierland in particular has been going through it, especially after last year’s decision to permanently shut down the Rivers of America to make room for Piston Peak. Disney Experiences chief Thomas Mazloum gave fans a deeper look at these new lands during this year’s D23 Expo, including some of the attraction names guests can look forward to.
In the meantime, though, Frontierland is still open, and guests are still riding Big Thunder Mountain and wandering through the area’s shops, including the Frontier Trading Post. Or at least, they were until this week.
The Trading Post shut its doors on Monday, August 24, after flooding was reported inside the store. Cast members reportedly had to contend with “several inches” of water pooling inside the location on the night of August 23, and the shop stayed closed through Tuesday, August 25, as crews worked to sort things out. Since the Trading Post also happens to be a regular Pin Tuesday spot, Disney set up a cart just outside the store so pin collectors wouldn’t miss out while everything got cleaned up.
The good news arrived on Wednesday, August 26, when the shop reopened its doors to guests once more. According to WDWNT, there doesn’t appear to be any lasting water damage, so shoppers can go back to browsing pins and other merchandise just like before.
