Hersheypark Sparks ‘Yikes’ Reaction With Dollywood Ticket Comment After Dolly Parton Dies
Dolly Parton’s death has created an extraordinary wave of grief across the entertainment industry, with fans remembering the country music legend for her songs, philanthropy, acting career, and decades of work in Tennessee.

That mourning has also extended into the theme park world.
Parton’s connection to Dollywood was unlike the relationship most celebrities have with amusement parks. She helped shape the Tennessee destination into a nationally recognized theme park and remained closely associated with it throughout her life.
So when fans began discussing Dollywood’s ticket prices shortly after news broke that Parton had died at 80, the conversation was already emotionally charged.
Then Hersheypark entered the thread.
The Pennsylvania theme park’s official social media account appeared to respond to a post praising Dollywood for keeping admission prices reasonable. The response quickly attracted criticism, with some users questioning the timing and tone.
Hersheypark has now apologized and provided an explanation for the exchange.
A Ticket Price Comment Lands at the Worst Possible Moment
The controversy began with an X post praising Dollywood’s admission prices.
The user shared an image of the Dollywood ticket calendar and pointed out that prices were sitting around $99.99. The post praised the park for maintaining what the user considered reasonable pricing despite rising costs.
Hersheypark’s official account appeared to respond:
“Our summer tickets are $49.99.”
On its own, the statement was simply a promotional comment about admission.
Criticism began appearing underneath the interaction.
One user asked whether Hersheypark would issue an “official apology” and described the response as “TACTLESS.”
Another called it “such a big yikes.”
The situation escalated enough that Hersheypark eventually removed the original response and addressed the criticism directly.
chaos & CONtrol 🎃 (@TheConnorWeb) shared the initial photo of the message on social media on X: “HERSHEY PARK, NOOOOOOOOOOOO”.

Hersheypark replied “We sincerely apologize for this error. A reply clarifying our ticket price in another conversation was posted without seeing the context of this chain so we removed quickly to avoid any confusion or insensitivity over intent.”
Hersheypark Says There Was More to the Conversation

Hersheypark’s explanation was that its response had been intended for a different part of the conversation.
The park said it “certainly respect[s] your concern” before explaining that a reply about its summer ticket price had been posted without the account seeing the full context of the thread.
According to Hersheypark, the response was removed quickly in an effort to prevent confusion or the appearance of insensitivity.
“We absolutely apologize for the error,” the park said.
The account later shared a screenshot of another message it said it had been responding to.
That post discussed the price of Hersheypark admission, with the user suggesting that a roughly $100 amusement park ticket was reasonable for a single day in 2026.
Hersheypark said that was the conversation it had been referencing.
Again, the park stressed that the response was not intended as a reaction to Parton’s death.
The Apology Did Not Stop the Conversation
The park subsequently released another apology.
“We sincerely apologize for this error,” Hersheypark stated.
It again explained that the ticket-price reply had been made without seeing the context of the surrounding conversation.
The park said the response was removed quickly once the issue became apparent.
The incident is a particularly clear example of the risks involved with corporate social media.
A single sentence can appear harmless when viewed in isolation, but social media conversations rarely happen in isolation. Timing, surrounding posts, and the identity of the people involved can completely change how a message is received.
In this case, the discussion was taking place during one of the most emotional moments the theme park industry has experienced in years.
Dollywood Was Taking a Very Different Approach

At nearly the same time, Dollywood was addressing the loss of its namesake.
The park released a heartfelt statement describing Parton as its “beloved Dreamer-in-Chief.”
The statement emphasized Parton’s desire for Dollywood to remain a place filled with happiness even after she was gone.
“Dolly’s heartfelt wish was that Dollywood always remain a place of joy, hope and togetherness,” the park said.
The statement added that families should be able to honor Parton “not with silence, but with laughter, music and shared dreams.”
Dollywood also confirmed that the park would continue operating following her death.
“In her spirit, Dollywood will be open Wednesday as Dolly wanted,” the statement said.
The park finished the message with a phrase that seems especially appropriate given Parton’s career:
“The show must go on.”
Why Dollywood Means So Much to Parton’s Fans
Dollywood’s response carries particular weight because Parton was deeply involved in the park’s development.
The attraction originally opened in 1961 under another name. In 1986, Parton became a partial owner and helped transform the destination into a celebration of her home region in the Smoky Mountains.
Over the following decades, Dollywood became much more than an amusement park.
Parton’s childhood, Appalachian upbringing, music, family, and career became part of the guest experience.
Visitors can explore attractions and exhibits connected to her life, including the Dolly Parton Experience. Her childhood home is represented at the park, while her music remains an important part of the atmosphere.
For fans, that means a trip to Dollywood has always offered something that cannot really be replicated at another theme park.
The park tells the story of a real person.
Dollywood’s Latest Attraction Opened Without Her
Parton’s health had already begun affecting her ability to attend Dollywood events before her death.
Earlier this month, she was scheduled to participate in the opening celebration for NightFlight Expedition.
She ultimately couldn’t attend in person and instead appeared through a prerecorded video.
The attraction opened to guests on August 19.
Parton’s absence was especially noticeable because of how personally involved she had historically been with the park.
For years, she participated in announcements, celebrations, and major events. Seeing her appear through video rather than standing at the park herself was therefore an emotional moment for many fans.
It also became one of the final examples of Parton’s continued involvement with Dollywood.
Theme Park Prices Are Becoming an Increasingly Important Conversation
While the social media controversy has centered on timing and tone, the underlying discussion about ticket prices is one that theme park fans know well.
Admission costs have become a major factor in vacation planning.
Disney World visitors routinely compare ticket prices, hotel rates, dining costs, parking, special events, and other expenses before booking a trip. Universal Orlando guests face similar calculations.
Dollywood has become another destination that families consider when looking at the overall cost of a theme park vacation.
A $99.99 ticket can look very different depending on what is included, the length of the visit, and the rest of the vacation budget.
Hersheypark’s $49.99 summer-ticket claim therefore naturally attracted attention.
But because the conversation happened immediately following Parton’s death, the pricing discussion became secondary to the question of whether the response was appropriate.
A Different Kind of Theme Park Story
For anyone planning a Disney vacation, the situation offers an interesting reminder about how different theme parks can be.
Disney World is built around characters and stories from movies and television. Universal Orlando similarly revolves around major entertainment franchises.
Dollywood is built around Dolly Parton herself.
That difference could become even more noticeable now.
Fans visiting the park after Parton’s death may be more interested in exploring her personal history, listening to her music, and seeing the places and exhibits connected to her life.
The emotional significance of those experiences is likely to change with time.
One Post, Two Very Different Reactions
Hersheypark’s social media response may ultimately be remembered as a brief online controversy, particularly now that the park has explained what happened and apologized.
But the timing made it impossible to separate the interaction from the larger moment.
Dolly Parton had just died.
Fans were looking for ways to celebrate her legacy.
And a response about ticket prices suddenly became part of that conversation.
Hersheypark has made clear that disrespect was never the intention. The park removed the response and apologized for how it appeared.
Meanwhile, Dollywood is preparing to carry on without the person who gave the park its name, vision, and unmistakable personality.
For travelers who have been considering Dollywood, Parton’s death may make a future visit feel different. The park will continue to operate, but the woman at the heart of its story is now part of its history. The music, attractions, and mountain setting remain, giving fans a chance to experience the world she spent decades building.
