Walt Disney World Officially Replaces BoardWalk Inn Area Ahead of Schedule
Guests arriving at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn may notice that one recent construction project has disappeared much sooner than expected.
Walt Disney World temporarily closed a familiar outdoor area earlier this month as work continued around the EPCOT-area resort. Disney originally planned to keep the space unavailable into September, meaning late-summer visitors were expecting to encounter construction during their stays.
Instead, Disney finished the project early. The area is open again, and guests will find something new waiting for them.
BoardWalk’s Village Green Is Back Open
Disney closed the Village Green at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas on August 10 for refurbishment.
Located between the resort and the BoardWalk promenade, the courtyard serves as an open recreational space for guests. Disney initially scheduled the Village Green to remain closed through September 4.
That timeline changed considerably.
The Village Green has already reopened, bringing the project to an end more than a week ahead of the original schedule.
Disney didn’t dramatically redesign the courtyard. Instead, the project focused on replacing one of its most noticeable features.
Disney Replaces the Village Green Turf
The worn artificial grass previously covering the Village Green is gone.
Disney installed new synthetic turf across the lawn, giving the space a much fresher appearance. The bright green replacement covers the courtyard where guests regularly gather for activities throughout their stay.
Although replacing artificial grass may not sound like a major Disney World project, the Village Green serves a practical purpose at the resort.
Several activities normally take place there, and the temporary closure forced Disney to make some adjustments.
Movie Under the Stars, outdoor yoga, and crafts moved to other locations around the property while crews completed the work. Now that the Village Green has reopened, those activities can return to their usual home.
BoardWalk Inn Refurbishment Isn’t Finished
While Disney completed this particular replacement early, construction around Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and Villas isn’t over.
The larger refurbishment is expected to continue through late 2026, with another phase already scheduled for 2027.
From January 11 through April 2027, the Luna Park Pool, Luna Park Crazy Play Area, and Leaping Horse Libations are scheduled to close for routine maintenance.
Guests staying at the resort during that period will still have swimming options. Disney plans to keep the Villas Pool and Inn Pool available while the Luna Park Pool area is closed.
For now, however, one piece of the ongoing BoardWalk project is officially finished.
Guests arriving ahead of the busy Labor Day period won’t have to wait until September 4 to use the Village Green again. Disney’s replacement turf is installed, the courtyard has reopened, and normal activities can begin returning to the newly refreshed space.
