Universal Orlando may have just brought a familiar piece of its monster history back into the spotlight.
Dark Universe has already become one of the most talked-about areas at Epic Universe, but fans are increasingly looking past what is open today and toward what could come next.
An expansion area near the land has been drawing attention for months, especially amid rumors of potential future attractions. Now, one recent aerial view has given those rumors another interesting twist.
The Creature from the Black Lagoon is making an epic return.
Dark Universe Already Gives Universal Monsters a Permanent Home
Dark Universe brought Universal’s classic monsters together in one dedicated land when Epic Universe opened in May 2025.
Guests step into Darkmoor, a dark village filled with characters including Frankenstein’s Monster, the Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolf Man.
The land currently features Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Curse of the Werewolf, along with themed dining and character encounters.
Universal also packed the area with references to its long history with monster movies and horror.
Even with all of that already operating, Dark Universe may only represent the beginning of what Universal has planned for this corner of Epic Universe.
An expansion area near the land has continued drawing attention, especially as activity around the site becomes more noticeable.
Rumors Continue to Follow the Expansion Area
Universal hasn’t revealed what it intends to build in the expansion area.
That has left plenty of room for theories.
One of the biggest rumors is that the Creature from the Black Lagoon could receive a dedicated attraction. Nothing has been confirmed, and Universal hasn’t announced a Creature ride for Epic Universe.
Still, the character makes sense as a possible candidate for a larger role. Universal has already built Dark Universe around several of its best-known monsters, while the Creature remains one of the most recognizable members of the classic lineup.
Now, an unexpected discovery has given fans another reason to talk about him.
Old Universal Monsters Turn Up Behind Frankenstein Manor
X user bioreconstruct recently shared an aerial view of the Dark Universe expansion area.
The image revealed three familiar monster statues behind Frankenstein Manor.
Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon were all visible in the area.
These aren’t newly created decorations for Epic Universe. The statues have ties to Classic Monsters Cafe, the longtime Universal Studios Florida restaurant that permanently closed in May 2022 after more than two decades.
Minion Cafe eventually replaced the restaurant as Universal transformed that section of the park into Minion Land.
The old monster pieces survived the transition and have now appeared within the Dark Universe expansion zone.
The aerial image also showed dumpsters around the area as materials were being sorted and removed.

Universal Could Have Another Use for the Statues
Seeing the statues in the expansion area immediately raises another question: What does Universal plan to do with them?
A future dining location is one possibility. Bringing pieces of Classic Monsters Cafe into a new restaurant could create a direct connection between Universal Studios Florida’s past and Dark Universe’s future.
But the statues could also end up associated with whatever attraction eventually comes to the expansion.
Permits related to the area have indicated an attraction of some kind. That raises the possibility that the old monster figures could eventually appear in a queue, around the attraction’s exterior, or somewhere else within the new development.
Of course, Universal may simply be storing them there for now.
Nothing currently confirms where the statues will ultimately end up.
Still, finding them behind Frankenstein Manor feels appropriate. These pieces spent years representing Universal’s classic monsters at another Orlando park, and Dark Universe offers a natural place for them to return.
Creature Isn’t the Only Expansion Rumor
The Creature from the Black Lagoon continues to receive plenty of attention, but other possibilities have also circulated.
A Bride of Frankenstein attraction has been discussed as another potential addition to Dark Universe.
There has also been talk of an eerie playground or children’s area. That type of addition could give younger guests another activity inside a land that currently leans heavily toward darker attractions and experiences.
Universal hasn’t confirmed either idea.
For now, the expansion remains a mystery.
Even so, the Creature continues to stand out because of the persistent attraction rumors surrounding the character. His old statue, appearing inside the expansion area, will only keep those conversations going.
Dark Universe Brings Old Universal History Back
Three statues sitting behind Frankenstein Manor don’t confirm what Universal is building next.
They certainly don’t confirm a Creature from the Black Lagoon attraction.
What they do show is that pieces of Classic Monsters Cafe have survived years after the restaurant disappeared from Universal Studios Florida.
Now, those familiar monsters have surfaced in a land created specifically to celebrate Universal’s horror legacy.
Whether they eventually decorate a restaurant, become part of a new attraction, or simply move somewhere else remains unknown.
For longtime Universal fans, though, seeing Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon together again is a welcome connection between the resort’s past and its newest theme park.
