One of the most recognizable sights at Universal Orlando looks very different right now.
Guests approaching Universal Studios Florida are finding much of the park’s famous entrance covered by scrim. The timing immediately stands out, especially with Halloween Horror Nights preparing to begin August 28.
Universal hasn’t announced exactly what’s happening behind the coverings. However, with opening night only days away, preparations for the massive Halloween event appear to be the most likely explanation.
Universal Studios Florida Entrance Gets Covered
Universal Studios Florida opened in 1990, and its massive entrance archways have greeted guests for 36 years.
While the park beyond them has changed considerably, the archways remain an instantly recognizable piece of Universal Orlando. Now, much of that familiar entrance has temporarily disappeared from view.
Scrim covers significant portions of the structure, including areas near the tallest section of the main archway.
Universal has not confirmed a permanent alteration to the entrance, and there’s currently no indication that the familiar archways themselves are going away.
Instead, attention is turning toward what could soon be added to them.

Halloween Horror Nights Is Days Away
Halloween Horror Nights begins August 28 at Universal Studios Florida, giving Universal very little time to finish preparations.
The event operates from 6:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. on select nights, completely changing the atmosphere of the park after regular operating hours.
Universal typically adds Halloween Horror Nights medallions and other event-specific touches around the entrance. With scrim currently blocking such a large portion of the central archway, Universal could be preparing those decorations for this year’s event.
There could also be something more elaborate planned, although Universal hasn’t announced anything.
Guests won’t have long to wait for an answer. Halloween Horror Nights is almost here, meaning the entrance should soon be ready to welcome thousands of horror fans.
A Huge Year for Halloween Horror Nights
This year’s event features 10 haunted houses, including five based on recognizable properties.
Stranger Things 5, Hellraiser, Evil Dead Burn, Sinners, and Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness make up the intellectual property lineup.
Universal is also bringing five original concepts to the event.
Those include Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control, H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular, Madlands: Caged Cannibals, Cybergoria, and INVASION: Alien Abduction.
The combination gives visitors a mix of familiar horror franchises and stories created specifically for Halloween Horror Nights.
Before guests reach any of them, however, they’ll first pass beneath those famous Universal Studios Florida archways.
Right now, those archways are mostly hidden.
With August 28 approaching quickly, Universal’s mysterious entrance work shouldn’t remain hidden for much longer. Whether it’s simply this year’s Halloween Horror Nights branding or something more ambitious, fans will soon see what Universal has been preparing behind the scrim.
