Disney Restores 14-Year-Old Magic Kingdom Attraction After 6 Months Behind Construction Walls
Magic Kingdom is going through some enormous changes, but one familiar corner of Fantasyland is starting to look a lot more like itself again.
For months, guests walking through Storybook Circus have encountered construction walls surrounding Big Top Souvenirs. The longtime merchandise and confectionery location closed in February 2026 for refurbishment, leaving one of the area’s most recognizable buildings unavailable.
Now, there are encouraging signs that the 14-year-old Magic Kingdom location is getting much closer to returning.
Crews have removed several construction elements surrounding the building, including coverings that previously blocked its large entrance sign. While Disney has not announced an exact reopening date, the latest changes suggest that work has reached an important stage.
Big Top Souvenirs Has Been Missing for Months
Big Top Souvenirs has been part of Storybook Circus since the area debuted during Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland expansion in 2012.
The location fits right into the circus theme, with its massive striped tent, bright colors, and elaborate signage. Inside, guests have traditionally found Disney merchandise and sweet treats.
That experience disappeared temporarily when the building closed for refurbishment in February.
The project has lasted much longer than a quick touch-up. Construction walls and protective coverings have surrounded portions of the building for months, while crews have completed several noticeable exterior projects.
One of the biggest changes came in June when crews installed a new roof.
Disney also turned its attention to the location’s main entrance sign, which faces Dumbo the Flying Elephant.
A Familiar Fantasyland Sign Is Back
Guests recently got their best look yet at the progress.
The large red Big Top Souvenirs marquee had spent weeks partially hidden behind striped scrim, construction walls, and protective plastic. Crews have now removed the plastic covering the “souvenirs” portion of the sign.
Even more noticeably, the blue construction walls that previously blocked the view have disappeared.
Disney replaced those walls with rolling planters, leaving the entire sign visible again.
It may sound like a relatively small change, but after months of construction, removing barriers is an encouraging development. The building is beginning to look much more like an operating Storybook Circus location and less like an active construction site.
There is still no confirmed reopening date, so guests shouldn’t necessarily expect to find the doors open immediately.
However, Disney clearly continues making progress.
Storybook Circus Is Coming Back Together
Big Top Souvenirs isn’t the only location in this corner of Magic Kingdom that has received attention.
Pete’s Silly Sideshow also underwent refurbishment work before reopening in June.
With that experience already back and Big Top Souvenirs moving closer to its eventual return, Storybook Circus is gradually returning to a more complete appearance.
The timing is notable, too.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party began its 2026 run on August 7, bringing more nighttime activity and special-event crowds into Magic Kingdom.
Having another major merchandise location available would certainly be useful as the park moves through the remainder of the year.
For now, we’ll have to wait for Disney to open the doors.
Still, after roughly six months of refurbishment work, seeing the restored marquee completely uncovered is one of the strongest signs yet that this longtime Fantasyland location is getting closer to its Magic Kingdom return.
