Disney World Changes Magic Kingdom Hours as Halloween Party Season Begins
What the New Hours Mean for Daytime Visiting Families
At Magic Kingdom, the arrival of pumpkins along Main Street, U.S.A. changes considerably more than the scenery.
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party began its 2026 season at Walt Disney World on August 7, starting a nearly three-month stretch in which Magic Kingdom operates two distinctly different kinds of park days. On party dates, regular admission ends at 6 p.m. On the days between parties, the park remains open later and presents its regular nighttime entertainment.
That distinction can determine whether a family sees Cinderella Castle after dark—or discovers that its Magic Kingdom day ends before sunset.
Disney has scheduled the separately ticketed Halloween event on 39 nights from August 7 through October 31. The party runs from 7 p.m. until midnight, although event ticketholders may enter Magic Kingdom beginning at 4 p.m.
Guests using standard park admission must leave when regular hours end at 6 p.m. unless they also hold a valid party ticket.
Magic Kingdom Hours Change Between Party and Non-Party Days
The first Halloween-party dates brought earlier Magic Kingdom openings alongside the early closures. Disney scheduled the park to open at 8 a.m., with Early Theme Park Entry beginning at 7:30 a.m. for eligible Disney Resort hotel guests.
That opening had initially been published only through August 21, but the calendar has already changed. The current Walt Disney World operating-hours calendar now lists an 8 a.m. opening on the August 23 party date as well.
August 25, 28, and 30 were still listed with 9 a.m. openings at the time of publication. Those hours could also be extended, but Disney has not promised that they will be. Guests should treat the published calendar as the current schedule—not a permanent commitment.
The earlier morning does not replace everything lost at night. A party-date guest entering at 8 a.m. receives 10 hours of regular park access, compared with as many as 13 or 14 hours on certain non-party days.
There are exceptions to the basic pattern. Saturday, August 8, opened at 8 a.m. and remained open until 11 p.m., despite having no Halloween party. August 15 and 22 carried the same extended schedule. Most other nearby non-party dates began at 9 a.m. and closed at 10 or 11 p.m.
In other words, “party day” is not a perfect shortcut for determining the opening time. Guests still need to inspect their individual date.
Halloween Party Nights Remove Magic Kingdom’s Regular Finale
The most consequential difference arrives after 6 p.m.
Disney’s entertainment calendar does not schedule Happily Ever After or Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away on Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party nights. Party guests instead receive event-exclusive entertainment, including Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade and Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular.

A party day can suit guests who prioritize attractions, an earlier start, and leaving before the late-night rush. Anyone expecting Starlight and Happily Ever After, however, should choose a non-party date or budget for the separately ticketed event.

Extended Evening Hours Also Move Around Disney World
Eligible guests at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Deluxe Villa Resorts, and several participating hotels must watch a second calendar: Extended Evening Theme Park Hours.
Magic Kingdom currently retains select Extended Evening Hours through August 19 and again on September 9. Disney’s Animal Kingdom takes the Wednesday slot on August 26 and September 2, while Disney’s Hollywood Studios hosts it on September 16.

The safest approach is to confirm both standard park hours and the Extended Evening Hours location shortly before traveling. A familiar Wednesday-night routine cannot be assumed during party season.
The Magic Kingdom Schedule Changes Again for Christmas
Halloween is only the first half of the pattern.
After the final Halloween party on October 31, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party runs on 25 select nights from November 8 through December 22. Those events also operate from 7 p.m. to midnight and admit party guests beginning at 4 p.m.
Inside the Magic has outlined how the two events create months of select-date early closures. That does not mean every Magic Kingdom day is shortened through December. It means the park calendar alternates repeatedly between party and non-party operations.
Before buying admission, reserving dining, or assigning Magic Kingdom to a particular day, guests should check Disney’s calendar again. During party season, a single date determines whether the day ends at 6 p.m. or continues beneath the fireworks
