Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Makes Crucial Entertainment Change Effective Immediately

Some Halloween party traditions at Magic Kingdom do not announce their changes. You just turn up and find out.

Powerline Max has been one of the most beloved parts of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party since 2022. Max Goof dressed as pop superstar Powerline from A Goofy Movie, backed by dancers in gloriously 1990s outfits. People looked forward to it specifically, partly because A Goofy Movie has grown into a genuine cult favorite and partly because it was just fun.

For years, it ran on Main Street, U.S.A., right before Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade. Something to watch while you waited, and more importantly, a reason to stand up and dance instead of sitting on a curb watching the clock.

It also had a flaw that burned a lot of guests. We wrote about that flaw back in 2022.

This year, the format changed completely.

The Change at Magic Kingdom

Max Goof is still ready to “Stand Out” at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. But the Powerline-inspired dance party is now a roaming stage show, performed at multiple locations across the night.

It no longer runs before Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade.

On the first party night of the season, Max performed with his Powerline Party Pack on the Adventureland Stage. Later that evening, the show turned up at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland.

Max never appeared on Main Street, U.S.A. before the parade at all.

Why That Is a Win

Losing a pre-parade tradition sounds bad. But honestly, it is probably not.

The old format had a real problem, and we covered it directly in 2022.

When Powerline Max debuted, Disney announced that partygoers could see Max Goof cosplaying as Powerline alongside his 90s crew before the Boo-To-You Parade. What wasn’t clear right off the bat was that Max only appeared on Main Street, U.S.A. He never walked the full parade route.

Max and his crew emerged from Center Street. So if you watched the parade from Frontierland, Liberty Square, or near the castle, you saw nothing.

Which is exactly what happened on opening night in 2022. Guests watched from Frontierland and missed Max entirely, with no idea he wouldn’t be leading the parade the whole way.

That stung, and it happened to plenty of people. You could plan perfectly, arrive early, grab a great spot, and still miss the whole thing because you picked the wrong land.

Roaming to different stages of shows kills that problem. Multiple performances in multiple places mean far more guests get a shot, no matter where they watch the parade.

What You Gain and What You Lose

Worth being honest about both.

Gained: access. Two locations on opening night, Adventureland Stage and Cosmic Ray’s, are spread across very different parts of the park. You no longer have to be standing in one specific stretch of Main Street, U.S.A. at one specific minute.

Lost: the buildup. The pre-parade version worked because a crowd was already gathered and waiting, and suddenly had a reason to get up. Harder to recreate at a stage show that people wander into.

Neither is wrong. They solve different problems.

Why the Costume Matters

For anyone who does not get why this appearance means so much to people.

Max’s Powerline look comes from the climax of the 1995 film A Goofy Movie, where Max dresses like pop superstar Powerline and ends up onstage with his father, Goofy, during the concert.

That scene is the emotional payoff of the whole film, and A Goofy Movie has built a devoted following over the decades. Seeing Max in that outfit with backup dancers is a direct callback to one of the most beloved moments in Disney animation.

The offering started in 2022, when Max debuted the costume and performed periodically with dancers on Main Street, U.S.A.

Catching It This Year at Magic Kingdom

Since it is now a roaming show with multiple performances, check the My Disney Experience app for showtimes and locations on your specific party night. They may vary.

Adventureland Stage and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe both hosted it on opening night, putting performances in two very different corners of the park.

Best part: you no longer have to trade your parade viewing spot for it. That makes planning easier, since Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade runs at 8:15 p.m. and 11:15 p.m., and the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular and Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks all have fixed times of their own.

Through October 31

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party runs select nights at Magic Kingdom through October 31, 2026.

If Powerline Max was on your list, your odds just got a lot better. If you loved the pre-parade version specifically, it is not coming back this season.

Either way, better to know now than to find out from the wrong side of the parade route.
