Time is running out for Disneyland guests who want to experience Haunted Mansion the way it has entertained visitors for generations.
Disney has confirmed that the attraction’s original version will welcome guests for the final time on Friday, August 7, before closing for its annual transformation. Beginning August 8, crews will begin converting the beloved attraction into Haunted Mansion Holiday, with the updated experience returning on August 21.
For fans who love the mansion’s classic ghost story, this weekend is the last chance to ride it until sometime in early 2027.
The Mansion Is About To Change
Every year, Disneyland temporarily closes Haunted Mansion to prepare one of the park’s biggest attraction transformations.
When it reopens later this month, guests won’t find the same eerie atmosphere they’ve experienced throughout the summer. Instead, Jack Skellington and the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) will take over nearly every part of the attraction.
The mansion’s exterior receives a dramatic new look, while many interior scenes are redesigned with themed decorations, updated props, and familiar characters from Halloween Town.
The changes are extensive enough that many guests consider Haunted Mansion Holiday an entirely different attraction.
More Than Just New Decorations
The transformation goes well beyond adding pumpkins and holiday lights.
Several iconic scenes are reimagined with new visual effects and storytelling elements. Guests will notice changes beginning with the Stretching Room before continuing through the attraction’s famous scenes.
The music also changes throughout the ride, giving the attraction a completely different atmosphere from the original version. Combined with the updated narration and seasonal set pieces, the experience offers something unique for repeat visitors.
Because the overlay lasts through both Halloween and the holiday season, Disneyland guests visiting this fall won’t have another opportunity to experience the original mansion.
Plan Ahead Before You Visit

The attraction typically sees increased demand leading up to its temporary closure, as many visitors want one final ride before it changes. Visiting earlier in the day can often help avoid the longest waits.
