Universal Orlando Is Changing How Epic Universe Operates During Rainy Weather

One of the biggest frustrations about visiting Epic Universe has never been the attractions themselves. Instead, it’s been the weather.

Anyone familiar with Central Florida knows how quickly sunshine can turn into heavy rain, especially during the summer months. Unfortunately for guests, Epic Universe has often been one of the toughest places to be when those afternoon showers arrive. With so many attractions located outdoors, rain has frequently forced multiple rides to close at the same time, leaving visitors scrambling to find something that remains open.

That may finally be starting to change.

According to new reports, Universal has cleared Mine-Cart Madness in Donkey Kong Country to continue operating during regular rain. The attraction would still close if lightning moves into the area, but a passing rainstorm alone would no longer be enough to shut it down.

It’s a small operational adjustment, but one that could make a noticeable difference for guests.

Since Epic Universe opened, weather has become one of the park’s biggest challenges. While Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure offer a larger mix of indoor attractions, Epic Universe leans heavily on outdoor experiences. That means rainy afternoons can dramatically change the park’s lineup in just a matter of minutes.

Visitors have often watched multiple attractions temporarily close as storms rolled through Orlando, creating longer waits at the few rides that remained available.

Mine-Cart Madness is one of the park’s signature attractions, making this reported policy change particularly important. Located inside SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, the family coaster has quickly become one of Epic Universe’s biggest draws thanks to its innovative track design that creates the illusion of mine carts jumping over broken sections of rail.

Keeping such a popular ride open during ordinary rain should help spread crowds throughout the park instead of funneling everyone toward indoor attractions.

Of course, this doesn’t mean weather delays have disappeared completely.

Like every major Central Florida theme park, Universal still follows strict lightning safety procedures. If storms with nearby lightning move into the area, Mine-Cart Madness will still suspend operations alongside the park’s other outdoor rides.

Even so, allowing the attraction to remain open during rain alone is welcome news for guests who have spent months worrying that a brief shower could derail their entire day.

Universal has not officially confirmed the operational adjustment, and policies can always change. Still, if this becomes the permanent standard, it represents one of the most practical guest experience improvements Epic Universe has introduced since opening.

Florida weather isn’t going anywhere, but visitors may soon find that rainy afternoons don’t have to bring quite as much disappointment.
