Disney World Confirms July Closure That Will Change Every Polynesian Resort Arrival

Planning a stay at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort this month? Walt Disney World has confirmed a permanent change that could affect how you begin your vacation.

Guests with upcoming hotel stays and dining reservations are now receiving emails from Disney warning them about a new traffic pattern that takes effect on July 13, 2026. While the beloved resort isn’t closing, one of the primary road connections leading to it is, changing the way every guest arriving by car will access the property.

For longtime Disney visitors who know the route by heart, this will be one of the biggest traffic changes around Magic Kingdom in years.

A Familiar Route Is Going Away

The intersection of Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way, located between Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and the Transportation and Ticket Center parking lots, will permanently close on July 13.

Once that happens, Seven Seas Drive will no longer connect directly with Floridian Way. Instead, the roadway will terminate at the main entrance to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

Drivers approaching from Floridian Way will now have to travel north on World Drive before following new directional signs into the resort.

Although the change may only add a few minutes to the drive, guests unfamiliar with the updated layout could find themselves making unexpected detours if they don’t plan ahead.

Disney Is Alerting Guests Before They Arrive

Rather than waiting until vacationers reach Walt Disney World, Disney has begun sending emails to guests with upcoming reservations at the Polynesian.

The company is encouraging anyone arriving by car to follow the updated signage and build additional travel time into their plans.

The email reads:

Dear Guest,

We are delighted you have chosen an experience with us at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort! We wanted to share that there will be a new traffic pattern during your upcoming visit due to ongoing roadway improvement projects. If you plan to arrive by car, we kindly ask that you follow Polynesian Resort directional signage on North World Drive to reach the entrance of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Please allow for additional travel and parking time to reach your destination.

If you have any questions or wish to modify your reservation, please call 407-939-1947 or use the My Disney Experience App.

We look forward to your arrival and wish you a wonderful visit!

Sincerely,

Disney Destinations, LLC

The notice is especially important for guests with time-sensitive plans, whether they’re checking into the resort or heading to popular restaurants like ‘Ohana, Kona Cafe, or Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.

More Changes Are Still Ahead

This roadway adjustment is another piece of Disney’s ongoing effort to improve traffic flow around Magic Kingdom.

Construction crews have spent years redesigning roads and intersections surrounding the park, and work is now well into its third phase. That phase includes the construction of a new traffic circle on Floridian Way and is expected to continue through the end of 2027.

While road construction isn’t the most exciting part of a Disney vacation, the improvements are designed to handle growing traffic throughout the resort as new hotels, attractions, and guest demand continue to increase.

Until the project is complete, Disney recommends allowing extra time whenever traveling to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort by car. Even repeat visitors who know the resort well should pay close attention to updated roadway signs, as one of the area’s most familiar driving routes will soon become part of Disney history.
