DC and Warner Bros. Confirms First Batman Series as Part of New Snyderverse

A new animated Batman series is officially on the way, with DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation currently developing an animated adaptation of Absolute Batman, one of the most successful modern reinventions of the character.

As shared by The Hollywood Reporter, the project was announced during this year’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival. It will bring the 2024-launched comic series from DC’s Absolute Universe to television, marking the first major adaptation of the alternate continuity.

Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder—no relation to Zack Snyder, the director behind Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Justice League (2021)—will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while the comic’s illustrator Nick Dragotta will also take on a production role.

What Is Absolute Batman?

The Absolute Batman storyline reimagines Bruce Wayne in a drastically different form, shifting away from billionaire status and instead portraying him as a blue-collar Gotham City resident and civil engineer shaped by crime and survival.

The comic quickly became a standout success for DC, selling hundreds of thousands of copies across multiple printings and helping establish the Absolute Universe alongside Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman.

The announcement arrives during a busy period for Batman on screen, with multiple competing versions in development.

These projects include Matt Reeves’ The Batman – Part II (2027), the DCU’s upcoming reboot The Brave and the Bold (TBA), and various animated projects such as Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall (2026) and season two of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader (2024).

While no release date has been confirmed for Absolute Batman, its development signals DC’s continued push to diversify the character across formats and tones.
