Disney World Announces Imminent EPCOT Closure Coming This September

A visit to EPCOT often revolves around more than attractions. For countless Walt Disney World guests, the park is just as much about discovering great food, relaxing with family, and enjoying experiences you simply can’t find anywhere else. That is why Disney’s latest announcement is worth paying attention to if you’re planning a trip this fall.

One well-known dining location will temporarily stop welcoming guests beginning in September 2026. The closure is expected to last only a few months, but anyone hoping to enjoy this signature restaurant during that time will need to look elsewhere until Disney reopens it later this year.

The Ultimate EPCOT Experience

Food has always played a major role in what makes EPCOT different from the other Walt Disney World parks. While attractions remain a big draw, many visitors arrive with restaurant reservations already booked and plans to spend the day tasting their way across the park.

World Showcase remains one of EPCOT’s biggest attractions, offering food inspired by 11 countries. Guests can enjoy everything from pastries in France and tacos in Mexico to sushi in Japan and fish and chips in the United Kingdom without ever leaving the park.

That wide variety is one of the reasons so many people consider EPCOT Disney World’s premier dining destination. It’s easy to spend an entire afternoon strolling from pavilion to pavilion while enjoying entertainment, shopping, and plenty of great meals along the way.

Still, one of the park’s most memorable restaurants sits outside World Showcase, offering guests a completely different dining experience.

An Experience That Stands Out

Coral Reef Restaurant has built a loyal following over the years thanks to a setting that few restaurants anywhere can match.

Located inside The Seas pavilion in World Nature, the restaurant overlooks a massive aquarium filled with marine life. Instead of traditional scenery, diners spend their meal watching sea turtles, rays, tropical fish, and sharks swim past enormous viewing windows.

The constantly changing underwater backdrop makes every visit feel unique. Whether guests are celebrating a special occasion or simply taking a break from the busy theme park, the peaceful atmosphere has made Coral Reef Restaurant a favorite stop for generations of Disney fans.

Many families also enjoy introducing children to the aquarium while they eat, making the experience just as entertaining as the meal itself.

That experience, however, will soon be unavailable for a short time.

Disney Has Announced a Temporary Closure

Disney has confirmed that Coral Reef Restaurant will temporarily close beginning September 8, 2026.

The official Coral Reef Restaurant webpage states, “Coral Reef Restaurant will be temporarily closed beginning September 8, 2026, and is expected to reopen later in 2026.”

At this point, Disney has not explained why the restaurant is closing or what work will take place during the temporary shutdown. The company has also not announced an exact reopening date, only that guests can expect it to return before the end of 2026.

As a result, visitors planning vacations after September 8 should expect the restaurant to remain unavailable until Disney completes its work.

Temporary refurbishments are nothing unusual at Walt Disney World. Disney regularly schedules maintenance projects throughout its parks and resorts to keep experiences operating for years to come.

Guests Will Still Find Plenty of Places to Eat

Although Coral Reef Restaurant will be closed for part of the fall, EPCOT continues to offer one of the largest collections of dining options anywhere at Walt Disney World.

World Showcase alone includes restaurants serving cuisine from across the globe. Guests can dine at San Angel Inn Restaurante in Mexico, enjoy steaks at Le Cellier Steakhouse in Canada, experience Biergarten Restaurant in Germany, or grab pizza at Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria in Italy.

Elsewhere in the park, Space 220 offers its signature space-themed dining experience. At the same time, Garden Grill Restaurant combines character dining with a slowly rotating restaurant that overlooks scenes from Living with the Land. Guests looking for a quick meal can also stop by Connections Eatery near the front of the park.

Throughout much of the year, EPCOT’s seasonal festivals add even more choices through outdoor food booths featuring limited-time menus and specialty dishes.

Only a Temporary Goodbye

Coral Reef Restaurant has become one of EPCOT’s signature dining locations because it offers an experience that goes far beyond the menu. Watching marine life swim past during lunch or dinner has created lasting memories for countless Disney visitors over the years.

Beginning September 8, 2026, guests will temporarily lose access to that experience while Disney completes its planned closure. Fortunately, the company expects the restaurant to reopen before the end of the year. Until then, EPCOT’s extensive lineup of restaurants should give visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy another memorable meal during their vacation.
