One Disney World Park Continues Falling Behind for Families Despite Major Additions

Every Walt Disney World park has something to offer families, but not every park delivers the same experience when you’re traveling with toddlers, preschoolers, or younger elementary-aged children.

Some parks are packed with attractions that have no height requirements. Others lean more heavily on thrill rides or experiences that appeal to older guests. After looking at ride lineups, character opportunities, shows, play areas, and overall family appeal, here’s how I would rank Walt Disney World’s four theme parks for young children.

1. Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom remains the clear winner.

The park checks every box families with young children are looking for. It starts with Cinderella Castle, which is still the photo every family wants when they visit Walt Disney World.

Beyond the castle, Magic Kingdom simply offers more attractions for young children than any other Disney park. Families can spend an entire day riding attractions together without worrying about height requirements. Peter Pan’s Flight, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and “it’s a small world” are just a few examples.

The park also provides spaces where kids can take a break from standing in line. The Dumbo indoor playground remains one of the best waiting areas at Walt Disney World, while the nearby Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak Station offers a chance to cool down.

Character meet-and-greets are another major advantage. From princesses to Mickey Mouse and friends, nowhere else comes close to matching Magic Kingdom’s lineup.

2. EPCOT

EPCOT may surprise some families, but it earns second place.

The park has evolved significantly over the past few years and now offers far more for younger guests than many people realize.

Journey of Water Inspired by Moana has become one of the most popular family experiences on property. Kids love interacting with the water features while parents appreciate having a place where children can move around freely.

The Seas with Nemo & Friends is another major draw. Between the attraction itself and the massive aquarium, families can easily spend a large portion of their day there.

EPCOT also excels at character experiences. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and several princesses can regularly be found throughout the park.

Journey Into Imagination With Figment remains a family favorite, especially because children can continue exploring the interactive area after exiting the attraction.

While EPCOT may not have the ride count of Magic Kingdom, it offers enough family-friendly experiences to comfortably secure second place.

3. Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios takes third place today, although that may not last much longer.

The park already offers several excellent shows for young children. The Frozen Sing-Along continues to draw large crowds, while The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure provides another strong family option.

Toy Story Land remains one of the most kid-friendly areas anywhere at Walt Disney World. The colorful setting, oversized toys, and family attractions make it a natural fit for younger visitors.

What could push Hollywood Studios higher is what is still coming.

The upcoming Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! show, additional character experiences, and the Drawn to Wonderland playground will give families even more reasons to spend time in the park.

Once those additions open, Hollywood Studios could challenge EPCOT for the number two spot.

4. Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom finishes fourth, though that says more about the competition than the park itself.

The park’s biggest strength is its animal experiences. Kilimanjaro Safaris remains one of Disney’s most unique attractions, and many children enjoy seeing animals they would never encounter at home.

Festival of the Lion King and Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! are outstanding productions that families should not miss.

The issue is variety. Compared to the other parks, there are fewer attractions specifically designed for young children. Families often find themselves repeating the same experiences throughout the day.

Bluey’s Wild World and the new Zootopia show are helping strengthen Animal Kingdom’s family lineup, but for now, the park still ranks last for families with younger kids.

When all factors are considered, Magic Kingdom remains the easy choice for first place, while the battle between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios could look very different in the years ahead.

Brittni Ward

Brittni is a Disney and Universal fan; one of her favorite things at both parks is collecting popcorn buckets. While at Disney World Resort, Brittni meets the princesses and rides Kilimanjaro Safaris. At Universal, Brittni enjoys the Minions and watching Animal Actors on Location! When not at Disney World Resort or Universal Orlando, Brittni spends time with her family and pets.
