Disney World Files Permit To Reimagine Grand Floridian Resort and Spa
A new government filing confirms that the transformation of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is far from finished. The latest project will physically connect two of Walt Disney World Resort’s most prestigious Magic Kingdom area hotels.
What the Filing Reveals For Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

On Monday, Walt Disney World Resort submitted an application to the South Florida Water Management District to overhaul parking and driveway infrastructure at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, tying the work to the broader World Drive North Phase 3 roadway project. @wdwmagic shared an aerial image on X (formerly known as Twitter) with red lines marking the construction zones outlined in the filing:
Grand Floridian’s parking lot is getting a significant overhaul. Plans filed with the South Florida Water Management District show a 3.40-acre expansion covering DVC and Wedding Pavilion parking, plus a connector near Island Tower.

The application identifies two separate construction areas. The primary zone — described as the “Proposed Grand Floridian Parking Lot Expansions Limits of Construction” — covers 3.40 acres and takes in the Disney Vacation Club exclusive parking lot and the Wedding Pavilion parking lot along Floridian Way. A second, smaller zone of 0.20 acres, labeled the “Proposed Connection Limits of Construction,” encompasses a parking area near the Island Tower DVC building at the neighboring Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
The Vision Behind the Plans

The filing points toward two changes coming to the Magic Kingdom area resort corridor. Walt Disney World Resort intends to reconfigure the parking areas to add guest spaces while creating a continuous parking connection running from the DVC building at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to the Island Tower DVC building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.
The project also includes a covered walkway linking DVC guest rooms at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa directly to the Wedding Pavilion. No proposed completion date for either project appears in the filing.
What This Means for Disney World Guests

Walt Disney World Resort has identified the DVC Parking area, Wedding Pavilion Parking, the Health Spa, the Wedding Pavilion, and the Island Tower DVC building as the amenities and areas most directly affected by the proposed construction. Disney Park guests driving to the resort should anticipate possible alternate routing once roadway and parking lot work begins.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa has been navigating a lengthy construction period for over a year, with the Monorail and most resort amenities continuing to operate normally throughout. The Grand Floridian Café is scheduled to close for its own refurbishment on July 20, with Cítricos temporarily expanding service to cover breakfast and brunch during the closure.
