Halloween Horror Nights season is getting closer by the day, but something feels different this year.
Normally, Universal begins building momentum throughout the summer with a steady stream of haunted house announcements, merchandise reveals, and social media teases. Fans spend weeks dissecting every clue and counting down until opening night. This year, however, the reveal schedule appears to have slowed considerably.

With tickets already on sale and the first event dates rapidly approaching, many fans have started wondering why so little has been officially announced.
Now, new comments from key figures in the Halloween Horror Nights community may offer some clues.
Fans Notice an Unusually Quiet Announcement Season
At this point in the buildup to Halloween Horror Nights, speculation is nothing new. What is unusual is the lack of official information.
So far, Universal has only revealed two haunted houses for Halloween Horror Nights 2026. That’s enough to get fans excited, but it leaves a large portion of the event’s lineup still unknown.
The slowdown became even more noticeable this past week when expected announcements failed to materialize.
That led some fans to ask questions directly.
John Murdy Offers an Interesting Response
Universal Studios Hollywood Creative Director John Murdy recently responded to a fan asking about the absence of announcements.
His reply was brief but immediately caught the attention of the Horror Nights community.
“No, everything is a bit foggy at present.”
While Murdy did not provide additional context, the comment quickly sparked discussion across social media and fan forums. Some interpreted it as a playful Horror Nights reference, while others viewed it as a possible indication that announcement plans had changed behind the scenes.
As is often the case with Murdy, fans were left trying to determine whether the comment was simply a joke or something more.
Merchandise May Have Played a Role
Additional discussion surfaced through the Horror Night Nightmares Discord community.
According to Insider Legacy, merchandise-related issues may have contributed to the lack of announcements this past week. While no official details have been provided by Universal, the suggestion immediately made sense to many longtime Horror Nights followers.
Merchandise and announcements often go hand in hand. Universal frequently launches apparel, collectibles, and other products alongside major reveal campaigns.
If merchandise wasn’t ready for release, it would not be surprising to see announcements pushed back until everything could launch together.
At this point, however, Universal has not publicly confirmed any delays.

The Two Houses We Know About
Despite the limited number of reveals, the two announced houses have already generated plenty of excitement.
Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control will celebrate the event’s 35th anniversary by bringing together two legendary Horror Nights icons. Guests will explore the twisted relationship between Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow in what is expected to be one of the event’s marquee original houses.
Universal has also announced Sinners, based on Ryan Coogler’s hit film. The house will transport guests into the world of Club Juke as vampires, Smoke and Stack, and other terrifying encounters emerge from the darkness.
Both concepts have been well received by fans, but they represent only a fraction of the event’s eventual lineup.
Halloween Horror Nights Is Almost Here
Halloween Horror Nights 2026 begins August 28 at Universal Orlando Resort and September 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Both events run through November 1.
Tickets, Universal Express Passes, R.I.P. Tours, and other premium offerings are already available for purchase. Orlando’s Premium Scream Night has also expanded to two nights after proving popular with guests.
With opening night rapidly approaching, fans likely won’t have to wait much longer before Universal resumes its announcement campaign.
Until then, Murdy’s “foggy” comment and the growing speculation surrounding possible merchandise delays will continue fueling conversations throughout the Horror Nights community.
