Disney World Erases Elements of Tomorrowland Dating Back to 1994
Another piece of the Tomorrowland landscape that Magic Kingdom Park guests have walked past for three decades is gone. It’s the third tower to disappear from the area in the past few weeks.
The Latest Tower Comes Down

On Wednesday, WDWNT reported that Disney cast members had removed the roof from a tower located to the left of the Tomorrowland entrance in the Cinderella Castle Hub at Magic Kingdom Park. The move came shortly after Walt Disney World Resort installed scrim around the structure earlier this week — a pattern that has now reliably telegraphed an impending removal. The tower has stood at the entrance to Tomorrowland since 1994.
The support structure of the rocket-style tower remains in place for now, with visible rust and weather damage suggesting the elements haven’t been kind to it over the past three decades. A piece of scrim covers a section of the red-painted metal ring inside the tower that’s visible from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. Based on how the previous two tower removals played out, the remaining structural components are likely to follow suit.

Scrim still covers the former site of one of the towers removed previously near Tomorrowland Terrace, leaving that stretch of land in a similar state of transition.
The Third Tower in Recent Weeks
The June 10 removal marks the third Tomorrowland tower taken down in recent weeks at Magic Kingdom Park, with the previous two disappearing earlier this month. Whether Walt Disney World Resort intends to replace the demolished towers with new decorative elements or simply leave the space open hasn’t been announced.

It’s equally unclear whether the removals are driven by a creative vision for a refreshed Tomorrowland aesthetic or simply by the practical reality of aging, weather-damaged structures that have reached the end of their useful life.
Part of a Broader Tomorrowland Evolution
The tower removals are the latest chapter in a years-long effort to modernize Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park. The process gained significant momentum with the addition of TRON Lightcycle / Run in 2023. More recently, Walt Disney Imagineering updated Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and announced a complete overhaul of Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress.

Rock repainting along the Cinderella Castle moat in front of the removed tower was also recently completed, suggesting a coordinated effort to refresh the overall visual identity of the Tomorrowland entrance area.
