After 59 Years, Disney Replaces Elements of Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

Roughly a month into the refurbishment closure of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, Disneyland Resort cast members were spotted replacing portions of the exterior of the 59-year-old New Orleans Square attraction. Here’s what we know about the changes at the original Southern California Disney park.

On June 2, WDWNT reported that a Disney cast member had been spotted repainting portions of the queue area for Pirates of the Caribbean in New Orleans Square. Upon closer inspection, the alternating tan- and terracotta-colored rectangular sections located under the black metal railings in the queue appeared brighter, suggesting that the employee had been repainting the area.

Furthermore, tarps line the ground near the newly repainted areas to protect the pavement from spills, and paint buckets were spotted in the area.

Pirates of the Caribbean closed for refurbishment on May 4; the final day to ride was May 3, 2026. Disneyland Resort’s website does not indicate when the New Orleans Square ride will reopen and encourages guests to “check back soon.”

Blue Bayou Restaurant, which has long allowed guests to dine as Pirates of the Caribbean boats glide by, also closed for refurbishment around the same time. It recently reopened with a “modified dining experience,” which includes plywood walls blocking the view into the Disneyland Park attraction. Otherwise, the Table Service dining location continues to serve its full menu to Southern California Disney Park guests.
