Pixar’s Biggest Hit in Nearly a Decade Just Got a Disney+ Release Date

Pixar’s Hoppers arrives on Disney+ on June 3, and if you have been waiting to watch the most acclaimed animated film of 2026 from home, the date is almost here. The film opened in theaters on March 6 to a response of the kind Pixar has consistently generated with its original films in recent years. Critics called it a return to form for the studio. Audiences agreed. The numbers backed both of them up.

What the Numbers Look Like Prior to Disney+

Hoppers earned a 94 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes alongside a 93 percent audience score on the same platform. For context, that kind of alignment between critical and audience response is rarer than it sounds, and it reflects a film that was working on multiple levels simultaneously rather than appealing to one group at the expense of the other.

The box office performance was equally strong. The film grossed over $165 million domestically and $206 million internationally for a worldwide total exceeding $371 million. For a wholly original Pixar film with no established franchise behind it, that number represents one of the studio’s most successful non-sequel theatrical outings in nearly a decade. In a year when the studio is also releasing Toy Story 5, the performance of an original property at that scale is a meaningful statement about what the Pixar brand still means to audiences.

What the Film Is About

Hoppers follows Mabel, an animal lover voiced by Piper Curda, who seizes an opportunity to use new technology to hop her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver and communicate directly with animals. What starts as a chance to experience the animal world from the inside becomes something much larger as Mabel befriends King George the beaver, voiced by Bobby Moynihan, and uncovers mysteries that lead to a confrontation with a major human threat in the form of smooth-talking Mayor Jerry Generazzo, voiced by Jon Hamm.

The voice cast surrounding the three leads is the kind that signals serious creative ambition. Kathy Najimy voices Dr. Samantha Sam Fairfax. Dave Franco voices Titus the butterfly. Eduardo Franco voices Loaf the beaver. And Meryl Streep voices the Insect Queen, which is a sentence that communicates everything you need to know about the tone and level of commitment behind this project.

The film was directed by Daniel Chong and written by Jesse Andrews.

When and Where on Disney+

Hoppers arrives on Disney+ on June 3, 2026. No additional purchase is required for subscribers. The film joins the streaming library as a standard inclusion rather than a premium add-on, which means any Disney+ household can watch it from the moment it becomes available.

June 3 is five days away. The return to form is almost home.
