Disney Opened Something New at Animal Kingdom Today and There Is Already a Problem

Bluey’s Wild World opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this morning, and the virtual queue situation was as intense as anticipated—the 7 a.m. drop filled in seconds. Disney families who had alarms set and apps ready still missed it. The 10 a.m. window requires being physically inside the park. The demand is real and not softening anytime soon.

But before families exhaust every strategy to secure a boarding group today, there is a specific detail about the full experience that cast members confirmed this morning, and that changes the picture for at least some of the guests fighting hardest to get in.

Jumping Junction is not fully operational.

What Jumping Junction Was Supposed to Be

Jumping Junction replaced the Affection Section at Conservation Station, the longtime petting zoo area that was one of Animal Kingdom’s most genuinely beloved low-key family experiences. The replacement brings Australian animals to the space, specifically kangaroos and wallabies, creating a thematic connection to Bluey’s Australian roots that gives the animal experience a coherence the Affection Section never had in relation to the rest of the Bluey programming.

Unlike the Affection Section, Jumping Junction is not a petting zoo. It is a walkthrough habitat with designated paths for guests to follow through the space in close proximity to the animals. That walkthrough experience was designed to be one of the more distinctive elements of the full Bluey’s Wild World visit.

What Disney Cast Members Said This Morning

Cast members confirmed on the morning of May 26 that Jumping Junction will not be fully operational for a while. The kangaroos and wallabies have only been in their new habitat since Wednesday, May 20, which is less than a week. Yesterday, May 25, was the first day that animal keepers themselves walked the designated paths through the habitat.

Asking guests to walk through a space that the animals have barely had time to get used to, in a theme park environment with the kind of crowd activity that opening day brings, would not meet the animal care standards that Animal Kingdom maintains throughout its operation. The timeline for full walkthrough access will be driven by how the animals acclimate, not by a calendar date.

Currently, guests with a virtual queue boarding group can view the kangaroos and wallabies from behind the fencing. The up-close walkthrough experience that Jumping Junction was designed to provide is not yet accessible.

What This Means for Your Disney Visit

For families whose primary reason to secure a virtual queue boarding group is the Bluey character experience, interactive games, and character appearances from Bluey and Bingo, this does not change the value of trying. Those elements are fully operational and delivering the experience they were designed to provide.

For families who were specifically excited about seeing Australian animals up close as a walkthrough experience, the honest advice is to wait. Disney has confirmed that Bluey’s Wild World continues beyond Cool Kids’ Summer so there is no urgency that requires competing for a boarding group before Jumping Junction is ready. The experience will still be there when the animals have had adequate time to settle in.

The virtual queue is competitive right now and burning a daily attempt on an experience that is not yet complete does not serve families who came specifically for the Australian animals.
