A burning vehicle in an EPCOT parking lot sent Walt Disney World Resort cast members into crowd control mode Monday morning. The couple whose car went up in flames later came forward to explain how it happened.
Disney Cast Members Clear the Scene

The fire was already underway when scanner monitoring account @WDWActiveCrime captured the dispatch at 8:49 a.m. on Monday, May 18, posting to X (formerly known as Twitter):

The alert listed only EPCOT’s general address, giving no indication of where exactly on the property the fire was burning.

Guests in the area quickly filled in the gaps. X user @DrewTheDude123 posted their account of the scene shortly after:

TikTok footage posted by @arianed_01 captured the response in real time:
@arianed_01 Car on fire at Epcot 5/18/2026
The video shows the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Fire Department directing water onto an actively burning vehicle in the Moana parking lot at EPCOT, with thick smoke rising from the scene. Disney cast members are clearly visible in the clip, forming a barrier to keep other guests out while firefighters worked.

The vehicle’s owners were already through the gates when they got the call about the fire. In the comments section of the TikTok video, a woman named Jaqueline Hill identified herself and her boyfriend as the owners of the 2020 Toyota RAV4 that caught fire in the Moana lot. She shared a photo of the car’s condition after the blaze was extinguished, including a shattered windshield, and described what unfolded in her own words:
“It was an airbag malfunction we literally checked into Epcot in about six minutes later we got a phone call when we came out we thought someone hit our car, but it turns out an airbag malfunctioned and deployed, causing it to go on fire. No one was hurt. We’re just a little turned upside down it was supposed to be a magical day as it was only my third time ever in the park. So yeah not so great but Disney was utterly amazing and helping us they made sure we were OK. They made sure everything was straight, but it has 100% confirmed the airbag malfunction.”
No One Hurt, No Disruption to the Park

Despite the alarming scene in the parking lot, the incident produced no injuries and no interruption to EPCOT’s operations. Attractions and experiences throughout the park continued running normally on Monday morning, and Walt Disney World Resort made no public statement about the fire.
