Disneyland Resort is getting ready to expand the after-dark lineup at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with a brand-new projection experience centered on one of Lucasfilm’s most recognizable modern characters: Grogu.
Starting May 16, visitors exploring Batuu will be able to catch The Curious Child, a limited-time nighttime projection show arriving ahead of the theatrical launch of The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026), which hits theaters later this month. The production will use the towering rock formations surrounding the Millennium Falcon in Black Spire Outpost as its backdrop, adding another layer of nighttime entertainment inside the immersive Star Wars land.
Disney says the show follows Grogu as he taps into the Force to revisit memories from his adventures with Din Djarin, also known as the Mandalorian. The projection experience is expected to highlight recognizable moments and imagery from the Disney+ series while also helping spotlight Lucasfilm’s upcoming film release.
“For a limited time beginning May 16, celebrate the release of the film by catching Grogu as he tests his power to recall fond memories of his adventures with The Mandalorian in “The Curious Child,” playing after “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga” at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland Park,” Disney Parks Blog wrote. “These nightly stunning projection effects transform the spires of Batuu near the Millennium Falcon, taking you on a storytelling adventure across the galaxy.”
The Curious Child will join Disneyland’s growing slate of evening offerings inside Galaxy’s Edge. According to Disney, the show will play after Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga, another projection experience already running in the land. Guests can also continue to enjoy Fire of the Rising Moons, which pairs Disneyland fireworks with custom audio, lighting, and effects viewed from within Batuu.
When Galaxy’s Edge first opened, much of the land stayed closely tied to the sequel trilogy era, which limited which characters could appear throughout the experience. In recent months, however, Disneyland has loosened those story restrictions, opening the door for heroes and villains from across the Star Wars timeline to appear together inside the land.
That change has already brought characters such as Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Han Solo, and Princess Leia into Galaxy’s Edge, giving longtime Star Wars fans more familiar faces throughout the area.
Now Disney appears to be placing Grogu front and center as anticipation grows for Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu, which arrives in theaters on May 22.
The rollout tied to the new movie goes beyond the nighttime projection show. Disneyland Resort previously confirmed that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will receive updates connected to Mando and Grogu beginning May 22 alongside the film’s debut. Additional themed snacks, beverages, merchandise, collectible novelties, and entertainment offerings are also expected throughout the resort.
Grogu’s major presence across the parks is hardly surprising. Since debuting in The Mandalorian in 2019, the character has become one of Disney’s strongest merchandise sellers while maintaining a heavy presence in Disney parks around the globe.
For Disneyland specifically, The Curious Child serves another purpose as well: encouraging guests to remain inside Galaxy’s Edge later into the evening. The land’s lighting, soundscape, and massive themed structures already create a completely different atmosphere after sunset, and projection-based entertainment has become a larger part of Disney’s park strategy in recent years.
Disney has not confirmed how long The Curious Child will remain at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, though the company is currently advertising the experience as a limited-time offering connected to the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu.
As Grogu continues to play a major role across Star Wars films, streaming, merchandise, and theme parks, Disneyland is giving fans another reason to spend their nights exploring Batuu this summer.
