Daisy Ridley’s Rey Finally Returns in New ‘Star Wars’ Project

Across the sequel trilogy, Rey’s journey from isolated survivor to Jedi successor helped define Disney’s modern era of Star Wars storytelling. While the films proved commercially successful, the later entries divided audiences, leaving the character’s legacy a frequent topic of debate among fans.

Portrayed by Daisy Ridley, Rey was introduced in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015) as a scavenger from Jakku who would go on to become the central figure of the sequel trilogy.

She returned in Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017) and concluded her journey in Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019), where her story ultimately culminated in the final defeat of Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and her decision to adopt the Skywalker name.

Rey’s legacy is now being carried forward in exciting new ways, most recently through a major crossover event in Fortnite. The latest Star Wars-themed content rollout includes a new trailer showcasing Rey as part of the game’s expanding in-universe experiences.

The collaboration continues a long-running partnership between Fortnite and Star Wars, blending cinematic characters into an interactive environment experienced by millions of players worldwide. Here’s the official description for the event, which started on May 1:

“For years, Epic, Disney and Lucasfilm have created STAR WARS experiences in Fortnite, from limited-time events to entire Battle Royale seasons. Now developers are building STAR WARS games in Fortnite using the official STAR WARS toolkit, complete with iconic characters, environments, vehicles and assets from Lucasfilm.

Starting May 1, hundreds of these islands will go live and Fortnite will be the only place where you can come together with friends to race tauntauns through icy tracks, run a bustling cantina on Tatooine, pilot a T-65B X-wing starfighter, and go on imaginative Star Wars adventures.”

Rey’s Fortnite appearance, however, is only the latest in a long line of cross-media expansions for the character. She has appeared in video games such as Star Wars: Battlefront II, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Disney Infinity 3.0, as well as animated projects like Star Wars: Forces of Destiny (2017–2018).

More recently, she returned in LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy (2024) and its follow-up (2025), reinforcing her continued presence across the franchise.

Beyond games and animation, Rey remains central to Disney’s theme park storytelling.

At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and the attraction Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, she features prominently as part of the themed land’s immersive story, helping anchor the sequel era within the physical Star Wars experience.

Looking ahead, Rey is also set to return in an untitled standalone film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Set roughly 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, the project is expected to follow her efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order, with Ridley reprising the role. However, the film currently remains in development with no confirmed release date.

For now, Rey’s future continues to expand across games, parks, and interactive experiences—ensuring she remains one of the most visible figures in the Star Wars galaxy.
