Disney Changes Name of ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ for New Theatrical Release
Disney has confirmed that The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992) will return to theaters across the United Kingdom this holiday season as part of a live concert tour.
The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert – Live to Film is set to travel across the UK for a 15-date run, marking the sixth consecutive year the production has been screened before a live orchestra. Cities on the tour include London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Edinburgh, with additional stops expected.
The performance was previously titled The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert.
“Disney’s The Muppet Christmas Carol in Concert Live to Film is set for a 15-date UK tour this festive season, featuring a screening of the film while the musical score is performed live by an orchestra,” the official description reads.
Directed by Brian Henson and starring Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, The Muppet Christmas Carol is widely regarded as one of the most faithful adaptations of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, despite its unconventional use of the Muppets.

Throughout the film, the Muppets re-enact Charles Dickens’ classic holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of the stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine). Gonzo, as Dickens, narrates the story with the help of Rizzo the Rat.
The film also features Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit, Fozzie Bear as Fozziwig, Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim, and more.
When Scrooge receives Christmas Eve visits from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, they show him the error of his self-serving ways. Though the old miser seems beyond any hope of redemption and happiness, the kind and humble Bob Cratchit, his family, and the Spirits open Scrooge’s eyes – and his heart – to the true meaning of Christmas.
The original score was composed by Miles Goodman (“Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”, “Little Shop of Horrors”) with songs by Oscar®, Emmy® and Grammy®-winning songwriter Paul Williams (“Rainbow Connection”, “Evergreen”).
