Disney World Vacations Hit Overnight, Guests Told Rebooking Isn’t Possible

Travel plans are unraveling across the country.

For many visitors heading to Walt Disney World, flights are booked months in advance as part of carefully planned trips. That is especially true for families trying to manage the overall cost of a visit.

That planning has now been disrupted.

Flights Disappear as Travel Plans Collapse

Spirit Airlines has confirmed it is shutting down operations after more than three decades, canceling all flights with immediate effect.

ā€œIt is with great disappointment that Spirit Airlines has started winding down its global operations, effective immediately. All flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. While we are not able to help rebook your flight on another airline, we will automatically process refunds for any flights purchased through Spirit with a credit or debit card to the original form of payment. We are proud of the impact of our ultra-low-cost model on the industry for the last 33 years and had hoped to serve our Guests for many years to come.ā€

Travelers booked on upcoming budget flights to or from Orlando are now left without transport, and the airline has confirmed it will not assist with rebooking.

That leaves passengers to arrange alternatives independently, often at short notice.

Orlando Feels the Impact

At Orlando International Airport (MCO), the airline had built a significant presence over the years.

ā€œSpirit Airlines has been a valued partner for 33 years. Our thoughts are with their employees during this difficult time, as well as the many travelers who are also affected.ā€

The disruption follows earlier signs of strain. Reports indicated that Spirit Airlines planned to cut more than 1,000 departing flights from Orlando in May 2026, reducing capacity by nearly 40% compared to the same month last year.

Orlando welcomed more than 75 million visitors in 2024, with Walt Disney World accounting for a substantial portion of that traffic. A sudden drop in flight availability places immediate pressure on travel into the region.

Efforts to prevent the collapse appear to have stalled. The Trump administration explored a potential $500 million loan, but no agreement was reached.

President Donald Trump previously said a “final proposal” had been put forward (via PBS), though he acknowledged a deal might not materialize.

For travelers, the situation is straightforward. Flights have been canceled, rebooking support is unavailable from Spirit, and alternative options are likely to be more expensive (although airlines such as Frontier have voiced support for affected customers).

That adds another layer to trips that were already costly. Single-day tickets at Magic Kingdom can exceed $200 during peak periods, making transportation one of the few areas where visitors could still save.

Are you surprised that Spirit Airlines has closed?
