After 25 Years, Disney LEGO Store Confirms Overhaul

The LEGO Store at Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District has been steadily revealing its new look. Let’s take a look at the latest addition to the 25-year-old merchandise location!

On April 27, WDWNT reported that a new Avengers-themed display had appeared on the outside of the LEGO Store, set inside a yellow-and-white frame constructed from oversized plastic building blocks. Spider-Man, Thor, Captain Marvel, the Falcon, and Iron Man are all visible above the surrounding construction walls, posed in front of an intergalactic-inspired backdrop.

The Avengers display joins the Frozen (2013) logo and snowy backdrop that appeared inside a separate yellow-and-white frame at the store last week — itself a replacement for the longtime Toy Story (1995) display featuring Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and a plastic brick rocket that had welcomed guests to the location since it opened in 2001.

More Frames, More to Come

The two new displays aren’t the end of it. Additional empty yellow-and-white frames are still visible on the building’s exterior, suggesting more character displays are being prepared. Whether a new Toy Story-themed sculpture will eventually fill one of those frames hasn’t been confirmed, and Disneyland Resort has made no public statement about the project or offered a completion timeline.

The LEGO Store has been part of the Downtown Disney District since 2001, when it opened alongside the Disneyland Resort expansion that brought Disney California Adventure Park to Anaheim. Twenty-five years later, its exterior is getting one of the most significant transformations in the store’s history.

The LEGO store itself remains open throughout the ongoing refurbishment. Guests may see or hear limited construction activity in the area as the project continues, but operations are otherwise unaffected.
