Disney World Keeps “Demolished” Ride Intact, According to New Findings

We have a final update on a seemingly demolished attraction at Magic Kingdom.

Over the decades, Walt Disney World Resort has repeatedly removed attractions to make way for new development, often with little warning. Entire experiences — including 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Submarine Voyage, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Stitch’s Great Escape — have been permanently closed and demolished as the resort evolves.

For months, the Liberty Belle Riverboat was widely assumed to be gone after disappearing from Magic Kingdom Park in mid-2025. The removal happened quietly, with no official update, and speculation quickly filled the gap left by Disney’s silence.

That assumption came as the park entered one of its most aggressive redevelopment phases in years. Longstanding areas tied to Frontierland and Liberty Square were cleared out, signaling a broader shift away from slower, atmospheric experiences toward IP-driven expansions tied to major Disney franchises.

The Liberty Belle had operated since opening day in 1971, circling the Rivers of America on a fixed track beneath the water. The steam-powered vessel ran a steady loop past detailed shoreline scenes, functioning less as a thrill ride and more as a moving piece of themed storytelling.

Its closure came alongside Tom Sawyer Island, a walk-through space that had allowed guests to explore caves, bridges, and wooded paths inspired by Mark Twain’s stories. Both attractions shut in July 2025 as Disney began preparing the land for major expansion projects.

Disney has since drained large sections of the Rivers of America and begun dismantling infrastructure across the area. The river, which once defined the layout of Frontierland, is being removed entirely to accommodate new construction, marking one of the most significant physical changes in the park’s history.

Around the same time, the Liberty Belle was moved offstage. Without any announcement from Disney, reports began circulating that the riverboat had been dismantled, with many fans treating its disappearance as a quiet end for the attraction.

New aerial images have since challenged that narrative. Photos shared by @bioreconstruct show the Liberty Belle intact in a backstage marina located north of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, an area not visible to guests and typically used for storage and operations.

The boat has been parked in that location since August 2025, shortly after its removal from the river. It was briefly spotted near a boat ramp, prompting speculation that Disney might transport it elsewhere, but no further movement has been reported since.

Disney has not confirmed any plans for the Liberty Belle, leaving its future unclear. The company has a history of both preserving and discarding legacy attractions, depending on operational needs, space constraints, and long-term creative direction.

The land the river once occupied is being redeveloped into a Cars-inspired expansion — not based on Radiator Springs — alongside a separate area themed to Disney Villains. Both projects are still in early stages, with construction ongoing and no confirmed opening timelines.

In the absence of official details, fan theories have continued to circulate. Suggestions include repurposing the Liberty Belle for transportation across Bay Lake or relocating it to another park, though neither idea has been supported by Disney or backed by credible reporting.
