Buzz and Woody Replaced by Anna and Elsa in Updated Disney Park Experience

Two of Pixar’s most iconic characters are officially being phased out of a Downtown Disney District landmark, and Frozen (2013) royalty is stepping in to take their place.

Buzz Lightyear and Woody had been fixtures outside the LEGO Store at Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District since the shop first opened in 2001. For a quarter century, the oversized Toy Story (1995) LEGO figures welcomed guests to one of the most visited retail locations at the Southern California Disney vacation destination.

That era came to a quiet end in February 2026 when both statues disappeared. Early speculation leaned toward a temporary pull for repairs — that kind of thing happens with weathered outdoor displays. But when their themed backdrop and Buzz’s rocket followed them out the door shortly after, it became clear that something more significant was happening.

Anna and Elsa Are Coming

New construction activity spotted this week appears to confirm what many fans feared. WDWNT reported on April 20 that large frames made from oversized gold and yellow LEGO bricks have appeared around exterior windows near the former Toy Story display area, with a Frozen (2013) logo rendered in blue and white bricks now visible inside one of the frames.

No official announcement has been made about which characters will anchor the new display, but given the film’s enduring popularity, Anna, Elsa, and Olaf are the most likely candidates for the new figures.

Work continues on other parts of the LEGO Store’s exterior; construction walls still cover a section that previously featured a Beauty and the Beast (1991)-themed display. The recently restored statue of Prince Phillip battling Maleficent remains atop the building. The store has stayed open for Disneyland Resort guests throughout the refurbishment.
