New ‘Superman’ (2025) Follow-up Arrives, but Without David Corenswet

James Gunn’s Superman (2025) didn’t just relaunch the Man of Steel—it set the foundation for the all-new DC Universe. Written and directed by Gunn and produced by Peter Safran, the film introduced David Corenswet (Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman) alongside Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), and Edi Gathegi (Michael Holt/Mister Terrific).

The film grossed $618.7 million worldwide, received mostly positive reviews, and established the new tone for the rebooted franchise, which replaces the DC Extended Universe.

That momentum is set to continue with upcoming theatrical releases including Supergirl (June 26, 2026), starring Milly Alcock (Kara Zor-El/Supergirl), and Clayface (October 23, 2026), featuring Tom Rhys Harries. Next year, Man of Tomorrow (July 9, 2027), a direct sequel that will again feature Corenswet’s Superman and Hoult’s Lex Luthor, will arrive.

But now, the DCU has effectively already delivered a follow-up to Superman (2025)—not on screen, but as a themed attraction. Located at Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Superman Experience: Defenders Unite adopts the 2025 film’s visual style and setting, placing guests inside the Fortress of Solitude among its Kryptonian Automatons.

A teaser for the one-hour experience features an animated version of Corenswet’s Superman who interacts with guests, though the actor does not provide the voice. That decision stands apart from attractions tied to Marvel and Star Wars at Disney Parks, which typically use original cast members.

Despite that, Corenswet is confirmed to return in Supergirl and Man of Tomorrow, keeping continuity intact on the film side of things. The experience also introduces the DCU’s version of Darkseid, previously seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021), though that film belongs to the separate DCEU.

The DCU replaces the earlier DCEU, which began with Man of Steel (2013) and concluded with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023). That earlier era—often referred to as the “Snyderverse,” including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)—still holds a strong fan following.

According to the official site, Superman Experience: Defenders Unite invites guests to “join the world’s greatest Super Hero and soar into an adventure like never before,” offering a globe-spanning, motion-based ride. While the DCU’s film slate continues to grow, this attraction operates as a direct extension of Superman (2025).
