Disney World Launches 19-Day Shutdown Starting Today
We are big fans of Disney resort transportation.

Not just the practical getting-from-here-to-there of it, but the experience of it. The boat from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom is one of those small Disney moments that turns a commute into part of the vacation. Same with the Polynesian boat dock crossing the Seven Seas Lagoon.
You are on the water, the park is ahead of you, and for a few minutes the whole thing feels unhurried and magical in a way that a bus simply does not replicate. We notice these things.
So when both of those boat docks are closing in the same general stretch of weeks, we want to make sure guests with upcoming stays at either resort know about it before they get there and find a sign on a closed gate.
Wilderness Lodge: Closed Starting Today

The boat dock at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge closes today, April 13, 2026, and boat transportation is suspended through May 1. The dock maintenance itself continues through late July 2026, but boats are expected to return on May 2.
Some context on the timing: Disney originally announced a dock refurbishment covering January through April, and the dock did briefly close in January. The current closure starting today suggests the remaining work from that window was pushed to spring. Guests who saw that earlier announcement and assumed the work was done might be caught off guard by this second phase. It was not done. It is happening now.
During the April 13 through May 1 window, there is no boat service from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom, Fort Wilderness, or the Contemporary Resort. Disney buses cover the route to Magic Kingdom. The Contemporary is trickier. There is no direct bus between Wilderness Lodge and the Contemporary, so getting there requires taking a bus to Magic Kingdom and then using the monorail or the walking path to reach the Contemporary from there. Worth knowing before you plan a resort-hopping afternoon.
The boat from Wilderness Lodge to Magic Kingdom is genuinely one of our favorite ways to start a park day. Crossing Bay Lake with the park ahead of you is a mood. A bus gets you there too, but it is not the same thing, and we want to acknowledge that for guests who specifically booked Wilderness Lodge with that morning boat ride in mind.
Polynesian Village Resort: Closing May 11

The boat dock at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort closes May 11, 2026, and reopens June 5. A four-week window.
Here is why this is a bigger deal than it sounds. The Polynesian is priced the way it is partly because of its transportation setup. You get two direct routes to Magic Kingdom: the monorail and the boat. That combination of options is almost unique on property. When the boat is offline, you still have the monorail, which is still excellent. But the boat crossing of the Seven Seas Lagoon is a different experience, and guests who chose the Polynesian over other resorts specifically because of that setup are operating with a reduced version of what they paid for during the closure.
The monorail stays fully operational throughout the May 11 to June 5 window. Buses and walkways are available. All dining, pools, and resort amenities are unaffected. The only thing changing is the boat dock. But at a resort where that boat dock is part of what makes the experience worth the rate, the distinction matters.
Worth mentioning: the Polynesian is already dealing with broader construction that has been ongoing since mid-2025, including reconfiguration of the front entrance and bus area. Disney’s website currently advises guests to allow extra travel time when arriving at or leaving the resort and notes that some views may be affected by construction. So the boat dock closure is landing on top of a stay that already comes with some caveats. If you are booked there in May or early June, go in knowing the full picture.
The Big Picture on Resort Construction Right Now
These two closures are not happening in an otherwise calm Walt Disney World landscape. Every single Deluxe Resort on property is dealing with some form of refurbishment or construction right now. Beach Club and Yacht Club through 2027. Animal Kingdom Lodge managing two separate projects. Boardwalk Inn under refurbishment since late 2025. Contemporary construction extending to late 2027. Grand Floridian enhancements through mid-2026. Wilderness Lodge handling exterior refurbishment of the main building and Copper Creek Villas through late 2026 on top of the dock situation.
We are not saying do not book a Deluxe Resort. We love these properties and they are worth it. We are saying do the research for your specific resort and your specific dates before you commit, because the construction picture varies significantly by property right now.
What to Do Before Your Trip

Wilderness Lodge guests between April 13 and May 1: adjust your transportation plan today. Know the bus routes, account for the extra step to reach the Contemporary, and let go of the morning boat ride for this trip. It will be back May 2.
Polynesian guests between May 11 and June 5: the monorail is your friend. Plan for slightly longer waits on the monorail platform as guests who would have taken the boat shift over. Everything else at the resort is fully available.
And for anyone still deciding between resorts: factor the current dock closures into your dates before you book. It is the kind of thing that is easy to account for in advance and frustrating to discover on arrival.
Our full Walt Disney World resort guide covers current transportation status across every property, with dock closure timelines and bus routing alternatives for both of these situations. Check it before your trip and then come find us on the boat side of Bay Lake once May 2 rolls around.
