‘Jurassic World Rebirth 2’ Will Start Shooting This Year, Release Date Also Revealed: Report

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) marked a new chapter for the long-running dinosaur franchise, shifting focus away from legacy characters and introducing a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson (Zora Bennett), Mahershala Ali (Duncan Kincaid), Jonathan Bailey (Dr. Henry Loomis), and Rupert Friend (Martin Krebs).

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film follows a team sent to a remote island research facility to extract dinosaur DNA for medical use, only to encounter dangerous mutant experiments.

Despite drawing mixed reactions from critics and longtime fans, the film proved a major commercial success, grossing over $869 million worldwide and reaffirming the franchise’s box office strength.

Now, a new report suggests Universal Pictures may already be preparing its next move. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK), a sequel—referred to as Jurassic World Rebirth 2—is reportedly being lined up for a production start in the fall, with a potential July 2028 release window.

While no official details have been confirmed, the timeline would suggest the studio is looking to maintain momentum following Rebirth’s financial performance.

Earlier speculation surrounding a follow-up included reports that Gareth Edwards could return to direct, with Scarlett Johansson (Zora Bennett) expected to reprise her role. Additionally, the domain name “jurassicworldliberation.com” was discovered earlier this year, fueling further discussion about the franchise’s future.

With the series now seven films deep, questions remain about where the story could go next. The franchise began with Jurassic Park (1993), followed by The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001), before evolving into the World trilogy—Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), and Jurassic World Dominion (2022).

Having already explored hybrid dinosaurs, human cloning, worldwide ecological disruption, and most recently, mutants, a future installment could finally introduce the long-gestating human-dino hybrid concept.

Universal Pictures has not officially announced a sequel or confirmed any of these reports.
