‘Jurassic Park’ Could Get TV Series That’s a “Faithful Adaptation” of Michael Crichton’s Novels
Michael Crichton’s best-selling novel Jurassic Park (1990) laid the groundwork for one of the most enduring franchises in modern pop culture. The book’s thrilling mix of science, chaos, and dinosaurs captured readers’ imaginations and eventually inspired Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film, which transformed the story into a global phenomenon.
Its sequel, The Lost World (1995), expanded the story further; however, like the 1993 film, The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) only scratched the surface of Crichton’s vision.

Over the decades, Jurassic Park has grown into a massive multimedia empire. The film series spans from the original 1993 release to Jurassic Park III (2001), then jumped forward with the Jurassic World trilogy and most recently, Jurassic World Rebirth (2025).
Alongside these films, the franchise has produced animated shows, video games, short films, tie-in novels, and theme park attractions.
Still, one major piece of territory remains unexplored: live-action television.

But that gap might close sooner than we think. HBO’s Harry Potter series, premiering on Christmas 2026, proves that major franchises can successfully adapt beloved books for streaming while providing new angles for familiar stories.
Like the Harry Potter series, a “faithful adaptation” of Jurassic Park and The Lost World could dive deep into Crichton’s source material, giving fans a closer look at the storylines and characters that first two films left on the cutting room floor.
Season 1 could adapt the first novel, while a following season might tackle The Lost World, establishing a small-screen continuity separate from the films.

With all that said, the Jurassic films show no signs of slowing down. Jurassic World Rebirth proved the franchise still commands a global audience, even if critics found it creatively exhausted. With television, however, Universal could explore narratives the films cannot, without relying on hybrid dinosaurs, human clones, or global-scale catastrophes.
It’s a chance to focus on suspense, science, and the ethics of genetic engineering—the elements that made Crichton’s books a hit in the first place.
So, could Jurassic Park finally find a home on the small screen? It might have seemed impossible once, but HBO’s Harry Potter proves that the leap might now be inevitable.
