‘Jurassic Park’ Franchise Hits Rewind With New Prequel

The ending of Jurassic Park (1993) is hardly ambiguous. The survivors get off the island, and the park is shut down, but that’s it — we never actually see what happens next on Isla Nublar. We had to wait 22 years to return. Although Jurassic World (2015) focuses on a new park that has literally been built on top of the old one.

For decades, fans have wondered how things unfolded on Nublar after the credits rolled. But Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) is built around that exact idea. Developed by Saber Interactive, the upcoming first-person action-adventure video game doesn’t revisit the main story audiences already know, but instead focuses on the aftermath, unfolding just 24 hours after the events of Steven Spielberg’s original film. Watch the official trailer:

The story follows Dr. Maya Joshi (Payal Mistry), an InGen scientist who failed to escape the island. Now, she’s left behind in a park that’s no longer functioning but teeming with escaped dinosaurs like Velociraptor and T. Rex. The official synopsis for the game reads:

“Return to Isla Nublar the day after the events of the beloved 1993 Jurassic Park film in an original adventure 65 million years in the making. Survive thrilling first-person action as InGen scientist Dr. Maya Joshi, who was unable to evacuate Isla Nublar, in this single-player action-adventure game and discover a never-before-told story. Through thrilling encounters, experience the wonder and danger of dinosaurs, each with their own distinct and adaptive behaviors brought to life by John Hammond’s vision.”

Rather than the large-scale action seen throughout the Jurassic World films, the new title is grounded in survival. The game uses a first-person perspective, placing players directly in danger as they navigate Isla Nublar. Avoiding dinosaurs is often more important than confronting them, with stealth, timing, and limited resources shaping each encounter.

Saber has described the setting as “a fully realized Isla Nublar,” and that promise extends to both familiar and unseen locations. The Visitor Center and the iconic gates return, but the game also expands into areas only hinted at in Jurassic Park (1993), giving a broader sense of how the park was designed to function before everything fell into total chaos.

While the film series has continued under the Jurassic World label, this project deliberately returns to the original branding. That decision reflects more than just the timeline — it signals a shift in tone. Where the newer films leaned into spectacle, Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) is focused on tension and isolation. And for a franchise that has lost its way on the big screen, it’s exciting to be finally going back to where all the wonder and terror started.

Jurassic Park: Survival will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
