Defunct Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Location Gets Renamed at Disney World

One of Disney’s most ambitious experiments in themed entertainment is entering a completely new phase.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser once promised guests the chance to live out their own Star Wars adventure. Designed as a two-night immersive stay aboard a fictional starliner known as the Halcyon, the experience blended role-playing storylines, character encounters, themed cuisine, and interactive missions that unfolded across the hotel and inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

The concept drew attention for its deep storytelling elements, allowing guests to participate in branching narratives throughout their stay. However, the experience’s high price point meant it reached a limited audience.

Disney ultimately shut down the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser in September 2023, ending the attraction’s run after just over a year. Even so, the location tied to the project is not being left behind.

Two years after the hotel closed its airlocks for good, Disney revealed plans for the Halcyon building itself. In 2025, the company confirmed that the facility would be transformed into office space for Walt Disney Imagineering.

The decision means the same creative team responsible for dreaming up the Starcruiser experience will now use the building as a working hub for future Disney projects.

Photos taken from above the property last year showed construction equipment and work crews surrounding the structure, indicating the conversion process was already underway. As images of the building circulated online, some observers commented on its stark outer design, with critics calling the structure “cold” and even comparing it to a “prison.”

Meanwhile, another small but notable change connected to the former Starcruiser experience has appeared inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Guests exploring the themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios may notice that the docking location once used by Starcruiser passengers now carries a different name. According to Blog Mickey, updated signage has appeared near the cave-like entrance where guests used to “arrive” on Batuu following their shuttle ride from the Halcyon.

Previously called Docking Bay 3, the area is now labeled Docking Bay 6. The change quietly distances the location from the now-defunct hotel storyline. During the Galactic Starcruiser experience, visitors staying aboard the Halcyon traveled to the planet Batuu as part of the adventure.

Their transport shuttle would bring them into Galaxy’s Edge through this specific docking bay, helping maintain the illusion that they had landed at the remote outpost. Aside from the updated signage, the space itself remains largely the same.

Even though the real-life building is being repurposed, the Halcyon starliner still exists within Star Wars storytelling. Fans spotted a quick reference to the vessel in the trailer for 2026’s The Mandalorian and Grogu. The moment features the Halcyon’s Aurebesh logo paired with the phrase “Halcyon, See the Galaxy,” placing the ship firmly within official Star Wars lore.

The appearance suggests Disney continues to view the Starcruiser as part of the broader narrative universe, even though the themed hotel itself is no longer operating.

The concept is also reaching fans in an unexpected way outside the parks. A company called C & S Themed Interiors has started offering custom installations that recreate one of the Galactic Starcruiser’s cabin rooms. The replica includes details inspired by the original guest quarters, such as futuristic lighting, a themed intercom system, and the sleek design aesthetic featured throughout the hotel.

For fans who never stepped aboard the Halcyon—or who couldn’t justify the cost of the experience—the recreation provides a way to bring a small piece of the starcruiser into their own home.

Taken together, these developments show how Disney is navigating the legacy of the Galactic Starcruiser. The physical building is shifting toward a practical purpose as office space for Imagineering, while the fictional starliner continues to appear in Star Wars media. Whether through the work being done inside the former hotel, references in upcoming films and shows, or fan recreations inspired by the attraction, the Halcyon’s story is continuing in ways few expected.
