Marvel Quietly Reworks Deadpool & Wolverine Plans for Next ‘Avengers’ Movie

Marvel fans know how quickly one rumor can take over the conversation. That has been especially true lately as the MCU moves deeper into Phase 6 and starts laying the groundwork for its next major crossover event. Every new update feels like it could point to something bigger.

That is why this latest report has people paying attention.

A new rumor suggests Marvel Studios may already be changing direction on one of the most talked-about concepts introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). On paper, it seemed like the kind of idea that would carry real weight moving forward. Instead, it may end up staying mostly within that one movie.

If that turns out to be true, it would say a lot about how Marvel wants to shape the next phase of its Multiverse story.

Avengers: Doomsday (2026) Is Getting Closer

The larger reason this rumor matters is simple: Avengers: Doomsday (2026) is getting closer, and expectations around it are already huge.

The movie is set to arrive on December 18, 2026, and Marvel clearly sees it as one of the biggest titles in the studio’s future. It will be the MCU’s fifth Avengers film, and it is expected to pull together a massive group of characters from both the MCU and earlier Marvel films. Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom only strengthened anticipation.

Because this movie sits so close to the center of the Multiverse Saga, fans have spent months trying to connect all the dots, leading many to assume that the biggest ideas introduced in recent projects would carry over into this story.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) Introduced a Huge Rule

When Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) hit theaters, it did not exactly treat the Multiverse like background decoration. The film built itself around it.

The story jumped across realities, pulled in characters from different corners of Marvel history, and fully embraced the chaos of alternate timelines. In the middle of all that, the movie introduced a new idea with major implications: the Anchor Being.

Mr. Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen, explains that some people matter so much to their universe that the entire reality depends on them. He describes Anchor Beings as “entities of such vital importance that when they die, their whole world slowly withers out of existence.”

In the film, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) becomes that figure for Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) universe. Since that version of Logan died in Logan (2017), Wade’s reality begins falling apart. That sends Deadpool on a mission across the Multiverse to find another version of Wolverine who can help save it.

By the end, Deadpool and Wolverine stop Cassandra Nova and preserve Earth-10005. Because the whole movie leans so heavily on that concept, plenty of fans assumed Marvel had just introduced an important new rule for the larger saga.

Marvel May Already Be Moving On

Now, though, that assumption looks less certain.

According to a rumor shared by insider @Cryptic4KQual on X, Marvel may leave the Anchor Being concept out of Avengers: Doomsday (2026). The insider reportedly said the “anchor being thing is a mess” and suggested it will not be used in the next Avengers movie.

If Marvel goes that route, the decision would not be hard to understand. The Multiverse Saga already asks audiences to keep up with alternate timelines, variants, universe collisions, and a growing list of interconnected stories across movies and Disney+ shows. Adding another major rule into the mix could make things even more confusing.

Marvel may simply want Doomsday to focus on bigger, more immediate threats.

A Packed Story May Leave Little Room

That possibility becomes even easier to understand when looking at everything Avengers: Doomsday (2026) is already expected to juggle.

Doctor Doom stands at the center of the coming conflict, and rumors continue to swirl about a possible showdown involving the Avengers and the X-Men at the X-Mansion. There is also ongoing talk of legacy Marvel characters returning, including appearances by Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.

That is a lot to balance in one film.

There are also rumors that Deadpool and Wolverine may have only minor roles in the movie. If that turns out to be true, Marvel may see no reason to revisit the idea they introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), especially if those characters are not central to the larger plot.

Marvel Still Has a Massive Movie on the Way

Even if the Anchor Being idea never comes back in a meaningful way, Avengers: Doomsday (2026) still looks like one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects yet.

The film has the scale, the cast, and the Multiverse stakes to feel enormous, with Doctor Doom stepping in as a major new threat. For fans who expected Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) to plant seeds for the next Avengers movie, this rumor may come as a surprise. At the same time, it may also show that Marvel is trying to keep its biggest crossover from becoming too cluttered.

With the December 18, 202,6, release date getting closer, one thing is clear: Marvel still has plenty of surprises left before Avengers: Doomsday (2026) finally arrives.
