New information released Wednesday has revised the casualty count from Tuesday’s backstage hazmat incident at Disneyland Park from five Disney cast members to eight.
A Chaotic Tuesday in Tomorrowland
The incident first came to light on the afternoon of March 10, when Southern California Disney Park guests were ushered out of Space Mountain, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, and the surrounding Tomorrowland corridors with little explanation. Disney cast members stationed outside The Star Trader, the Space Mountain bathrooms, the top of Star Wars Launch Bay, and nearby outdoor areas turned guests away as the situation developed backstage. The 1:30 p.m. “Celebrate Happy Cavalcade” was canceled as Disneyland Resort employees escorted guests through backstage evacuation routes.
By early evening, Disneyland Resort and Anaheim Fire Department officials had confirmed the cause to theme park journalist Scott Gustin. On X (formerly known as Twitter), Gustin wrote:
Building materials used by a contractor triggered a reaction backstage at Disneyland. Several cast members were treated on site by paramedics and released, while 5 experiencing dizziness and shortness of breath were taken to local hospitals.

The resort confirmed that no guests were harmed and that all affected theme park areas would reopen once fire officials cleared the scene.
Three More Disney Cast Members Transported
Disneyland Resort confirmed on Wednesday that three additional Disney cast members had been taken to local hospitals for evaluation following the incident. Gustin shared the updated figures on X:
8 Disneyland cast members who experienced dizziness and shortness of breath were transported to local hospitals for evaluation. This does not mean they were hospitalized or admitted, only that they were taken for further medical evaluation.

The nature of the hazardous building materials that triggered the reaction has not been disclosed. As of Wednesday, March 11, Space Mountain, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, and all other impacted areas of Tomorrowland are back open to Disneyland Resort guests.
