Animal Kingdom Suddenly Using Closed Area for Something New

Guests hoping to meet Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will need to head to a slightly different location than before. The popular characters have quietly moved their meet-and-greet spot inside the park, and the change is connected to several updates happening behind the scenes.

Character locations at Walt Disney World occasionally move as the parks evolve, but this particular shift is part of a larger reshuffling happening in Animal Kingdom right now.

A New Spot Near the Wildlife Express Train

Donald, Daisy, and Goofy are now greeting guests near the Wildlife Express Train Station.

Under normal circumstances, this station serves as the departure point for guests traveling to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, an area of the park known for its conservation exhibits and animal care demonstrations. However, because the train is currently not operating, the station area has temporarily taken on a new purpose.

Instead of boarding the train, guests can now meet the trio of classic Disney characters there.

The meet-and-greet setup places the characters in front of the train station area, creating a fun and unique backdrop that still feels perfectly at home within Animal Kingdom. Donald and Daisy continue wearing their safari-style outfits similar to what they wear at Tusker House Restaurant, while Goofy appears in his familiar outdoorsy look.

Meeting all three characters in one place makes the location especially convenient for families.

Why the Characters Moved

The change is tied to the temporary closure of Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

Disney is currently preparing that area for a brand-new experience based on the popular children’s show Bluey. Because the Wildlife Express Train is the only way guests can reach Rafiki’s Planet Watch, shutting down the train effectively closes that entire section of the park.

Once that happened, Disney needed to relocate several offerings that were previously found there.

Characters from The Lion King were also affected by the changes. Timon and Rafiki previously greeted guests at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, but they have since moved to The Oasis near the park’s entrance.

With those characters occupying the Oasis location, Donald and Daisy had to move again, which ultimately brought them to the Wildlife Express Train Station alongside Goofy.

Changes Coming to Affection Section

The updates happening at Rafiki’s Planet Watch go beyond just a new character experience.

One notable change involves Affection Section, the petting zoo that has long been a part of Animal Kingdom. Instead of reopening in its previous form, the area is being reimagined with Australian animals to better match the theme of the upcoming Bluey experience.

This update helps tie the animal encounters more closely to the show while still keeping Animal Kingdom’s educational focus alive.

A New Place to Meet Classic Characters

While the location may be different, the experience of meeting Donald, Daisy, and Goofy remains the same.

Guests can still take photos, share hugs, and enjoy a fun moment with three of Disney’s most beloved characters. And with the Wildlife Express Train temporarily out of service, the area provides a quieter setting that many families may actually prefer.

For now, fans visiting Animal Kingdom can find the trio near the Wildlife Express Train Station — at least until the park’s next round of changes arrives.
