Disney Cancels ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Show Focused on Jack Sparrow

Jack Sparrow fans, we have some bad news. One of the most anticipated entertainment offerings aboard Disney’s brand-new cruise ship has quietly walked the plank.

The Disney Adventure has already had a remarkable journey, even before a single guest boards. The ship, now the largest in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, was acquired by Disney after its original owner went bankrupt, leaving the nearly-completed vessel stranded in a German warehouse. The Mouse stepped in, reimagined the ship entirely, and set its sights on the Asian market. Maiden voyages of three and four nights departing from Singapore are scheduled for this year.

The ship arrives with a robust entertainment lineup drawing from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Duffy and Friends, and classic Disney. However, one act that was supposed to be part of that bill will no longer be performed.

Theme park and travel journalist Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) was among the press invited aboard the Disney Adventure this weekend and delivered the news on Sunday, March 8. On X (formerly known as Twitter), he wrote:

‘Captain Jack Sparrow & The Siren Queen’ is no longer part of the entertainment lineup on the Disney Adventure. And at this time, there are no plans to offer the show on the ship in the future.

The production had been designed for the Disney Imagination Garden, the ship’s open-air internal courtyard. The story would have followed the infamous pirate and his crew as they chased treasure through a gauntlet of mermaids and giant squids — a theatrical premise well-suited to the dramatic outdoor space. Of course, the show would not have featured Johnny Depp in the role he made iconic across the Pirates of the Caribbean film series.

Disney Cruise Line has stayed silent on why the show was pulled. No alternative programming has been announced to fill the gap, and guests booked on Disney Adventure sailings should not expect the show to appear on their itinerary.
