Disney Starts Dialing Back EPCOT’s “Drinking Culture” After Major Guest Incidents

For years, EPCOT has held a reputation unlike any other Disney park. Guests visit Walt Disney World for the international pavilions, the impressive architecture, and some of the most diverse food options. But another unofficial tradition has quietly become part of the park’s identity: “drinking around the world.”

At first, the idea was simple. Guests would grab a drink in one pavilion, walk to the next country, and repeat the process. It felt like a relaxed way to explore World Showcase while sampling beverages inspired by different cultures.

But as the tradition grew, so did concerns about how far it might go.

Recently, more Disney fans have begun asking whether the atmosphere has shifted too far from what EPCOT was meant to be. Several incidents involving intoxicated guests, arguments, and even arrests have started pushing the conversation in a new direction.

How the Tradition Took Off

When EPCOT opened in 1982, it wasn’t intended to be a nightlife destination. The park focused heavily on culture, innovation, and education. Still, the layout of World Showcase naturally created opportunities for guests to sample food and drinks from around the globe.

Before long, visitors began challenging themselves to try a drink in every country pavilion surrounding the lagoon. The “drink around the world” idea quickly caught on.

Social media played a major role in spreading the trend. Guests began posting photos of colorful cocktails, specialty beers, and themed beverages from each pavilion. Large groups started organizing trips around the activity, including bachelor parties, bachelorette celebrations, and other gatherings.

EPCOT’s International Food & Wine Festival helped accelerate the trend. Each year, the event adds dozens of temporary booths that feature unique foods and drinks from different cultures.

With so many drink options packed into a single loop around the lagoon, the festival became one of the biggest alcohol-centered experiences at Walt Disney World.

The Atmosphere Begins to Change

Over time, guest behavior around World Showcase began attracting attention. What once felt like an occasional, overly enthusiastic visitor has gradually become a steady stream of stories circulating online.

Visitors frequently report witnessing arguments, disruptive guests, and individuals being escorted out of the park.

Security stepping in is no longer something that surprises guests. By evening hours, many visitors say they almost expect to see it happen.

Online forums and social media discussions regularly mention intoxicated guests yelling, stumbling through crowds, or causing confrontations. Some situations involve disagreements between guests, while others involve Cast Members trying to de-escalate tense situations.

Many longtime fans say the nighttime atmosphere around World Showcase now feels noticeably different from the family-friendly environment Disney originally intended.

Guest Stories Paint a Clear Picture

Several guest accounts illustrate what some visitors are seeing in the park.

One guest recalled witnessing a confrontation near the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind queue. According to the story, a cast member and an intoxicated guest began arguing near the attraction entrance.

“Did anyone catch the cast member and the drunk guy get into it outside of the Guardians queue?” the guest wrote. “They had to be pulled apart, and several people ran over to break it up. Never seen something like that here before.”

Another guest shared a story they overheard while riding the parking tram. Someone mentioned that Cast Members had tracked down a disruptive visitor and escorted him out of the park.

The guest reportedly belonged to a large group wearing matching wedding party shirts. What began as a celebration ended in embarrassment for the entire group.

Stories like these have become familiar topics of conversation among Disney fans.

Some EPCOT Visitors Leave the Area Early

For some guests, the shift in atmosphere has become enough to change how they experience the park.

One visitor explained that the behavior around World Showcase pushed them to leave the area much earlier than planned.

They described guests yelling, spilling drinks, and bumping into others as the crowd grew more chaotic. The smell of alcohol lingered in the air as the evening progressed.

By around 7 p.m., they decided to head elsewhere in the park.

As the guest left, they noticed something interesting. Most families with younger children had already moved toward the front of EPCOT. Aside from attractions like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Frozen Ever After, the area appeared to have very few kids left.

To that guest, it seemed like families were intentionally avoiding World Showcase later in the evening.

The Incident That Shocked Many Fans

One incident in particular drew significant attention among Disney fans.

On May 24, a man allegedly removed his clothes and ran through the American Adventure Pavilion at EPCOT. The situation unfolded in front of large crowds of guests.

Witnesses said the scene quickly became chaotic as security rushed to intervene. The individual reportedly exposed himself in front of hundreds of visitors before being stopped by Walt Disney World security.

The bizarre moment quickly spread across social media and news outlets. Among fans, it became known as the “drunk streaker of EPCOT.”

For many observers, the incident became a symbol of how far the park’s drinking culture had drifted from its original spirit.

Disney Responds to the Growing Concerns

As incidents like these continue to circulate, Disney appears to be taking stronger action.

Guests who become excessively intoxicated or disruptive are increasingly being escorted out of the park. In some cases, law enforcement becomes involved when situations escalate beyond what security can manage.

Some individuals have reportedly been banned from Walt Disney World following incidents of aggressive behavior.

Looking ahead, Disney has several potential options for reducing these problems. The company could limit alcohol purchases for guests who appear intoxicated, increase security presence during busy festival nights, or allow Cast Members greater authority to refuse alcohol service.

Finding a Better Balance

EPCOT remains one of the most unique parks at Walt Disney World. Its global pavilions, festivals, and culinary offerings naturally appeal to adults seeking something different from other parks.

Still, EPCOT is first and foremost a Disney theme park.

Families, longtime fans, and responsible adult guests all share the same spaces. When disruptive behavior becomes more common, it impacts everyone visiting the park.

Disney now faces the challenge of balancing EPCOT’s popular food and beverage culture with the family-friendly environment that defines the resort.

If the company continues to strengthen enforcement while encouraging more responsible behavior, the park may be able to preserve the fun of sampling drinks from around the world without allowing the experience to spiral out of control.
