Disney World Extends Mexico Pavilion Closure at EPCOT

On February 10, Disney Dining reported that one of the entrances and exits to the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT had been blocked due to a refurbishment project on the iconic pyramid in the theme park area. Now, let’s take a look at the latest updates on the ongoing maintenance work.

Work Began Earlier This Month

Earlier this month, scaffolding appeared around the left-side entrance/right-side exit to the pyramid in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT. The building houses most of the pavilion’s shops, the San Angel Inn Restaurante, and the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros attraction. All remained operational despite the ongoing work.

A sign inside instructed Disney Park guests to please use the left-side exit. A support column was also installed near the exit doors inside the pyramid, suggesting that crews were performing some internal ductwork or other interior infrastructure maintenance.

This week, more scaffolding appeared on the exterior of the pyramid in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT. The construction support structures already surrounded the left-side entrance doors, but Disney cast members have significantly expanded their presence. The scaffolding now extends farther left toward a backstage area, in the direction of the World Discovery and World Celebration neighborhoods.

On February 24, WDWNT reported on the latest progress on the refurbishment project and shared this photo of the scaffolding around the pyramid:

Walt Disney World Resort has not issued any public statements about the scope or timeline for this project. At this time, all offerings in the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion pyramid remain operational, including the San Angel Inn Restaurante, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, and the many merchandise locations.
