‘Jurassic Park’ May Take the Prequel Route Following ‘Rebirth’

Since Jurassic World Rebirth grossed $869.1 million worldwide last summer, speculation about the next installment has begun. While reports suggest that director Gareth Edwards and actors like Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are in negotiations to return, Universal Pictures has yet to confirm plans for another Jurassic Park sequel.

Still, fans have long debated whether the franchise should continue moving forward or explore earlier events. The film series has followed each new story chronologically; however, a story centered on a young John Hammond, for instance, could detail the creation of Jurassic Park and the early experiments that led to the first dinosaurs.

In 2023, Jurassic Outpost shared details from an unofficial script imagining Hammond in his twenties presenting his “flea circus,” the anecdote that he references in the 1993 film.

Now, an AI-generated concept trailer based on that script appeared online. The trailer depicts a younger Hammond, early InGen facilities, and even features characters like Dr. Henry Wu and Dennis Nedry. The visual quality is inconsistent, particularly the dinosaurs, but the trailer demonstrates how the concept could work as a full prequel. Watch it below:

Naturally, the fake trailer has sparked discussion among fans about what the next Jurassic film, or even a streaming series, could be.

Instead of yet another sequel that recycles similar storylines like Rebirth, a prequel could explore the scientific and ethical decisions that led to the creation of the original park.

But whether Universal will ever pursue a project like this remains to be seen. For now, the AI trailer serves as an unofficial proof of concept, showing that a story about Hammond’s early ambitions could be compelling.
