Another Marvel Star Spoils ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ as New Reports Come To Light
Marvel Studios is saying very little out loud about Avengers: Doomsday, but behind closed doors, the 2026 tentpole is being framed as a major stress test for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it heads into its next era.

Early word from industry circles points to guarded confidence. On The Hot Mic, insider Jeff Sneider shared a brief status update after checking in on the film’s progress.
“It’s still very much in post. Let me see if I have anything on that. I did check in before the show, just in case. I did get a little something. Avengers is in post, and they still have a lot of pick-ups to do, but what I’m hearing is positive. You’re going to like it,” Sneider said. “You’re going to like the movie.”
Those comments land as Doomsday moves into additional photography this spring. Production activity has already been spotted overseas, with cameras reportedly rolling in the UK earlier than expected. According to Geek Tyrant:
While previous reports claimed Avengers: Doomsday reshoots were scheduled to begin in April, recent photos indicate production may have started early in London. No cast members were spotted, but crew wearing Avengers: Doomsday jackets were seen filming scenes staged in what appears to be World War II era London.

The Multiverse remains the backbone of Marvel’s current storytelling strategy, particularly as the studio looks to regain its footing after a rocky post-Endgame stretch.
That’s where Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) come into play. Rather than functioning as standard sequels, the films are designed as a narrative reset, reshaping the MCU’s hierarchy and laying groundwork for what Marvel has labeled the Mutant Saga.
The return of Joe and Anthony Russo underscores the scale of that plan. The directing duo previously guided Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019), and they’re now steering both upcoming Avengers chapters.
Doomsday’s cast reflects that ambition, pulling characters from nearly 20 years of Marvel films and series.

Marvel fueled speculation further during Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) by attaching teaser footage for Doomsday. The preview reportedly featured Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Thor, X-Men characters, Wakandan heroes, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Ben Grimm/The Thing sharing the screen. The appearance confirmed Evans’ Captain America remains in play.
Evans’ involvement connects directly to one of Doomsday’s most surprising developments: Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU, this time as Victor Von Doom. After anchoring the Infinity Saga as Tony Stark, Downey now takes on one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. Doctor Doom was first teased in the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025), appearing opposite Franklin Richards.
Speculation suggests this version of Doom may operate in morally gray territory, acting as a competing force rather than a straightforward antagonist like Thanos (Josh Brolin). Some theories link Doom’s motivations to Steve Rogers, possibly stemming from the ripple effects of Rogers’ time travel in Avengers: Endgame. Marvel has not confirmed these ideas.

Unverified reports have also hinted at a surprising opening sequence. According to leaks, Doomsday may begin with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man clashing with the X-Men, including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, despite neither actor being officially announced.
Not all insider chatter has been glowing. Scooper Daniel Richtman shared concerns online, writing, “I have mixed feelings about the direction they’re taking with Avengers: Doomsday/Secret Wars. Some of it sounds super epic, but there are certain decisions I don’t want to spoil that I really don’t understand, and I think they’re going to make people REALLY angry,” the insider said (via Comic Book Movie).
As Doomsday approaches its reshoot window and Secret Wars ramps up, reports continue to stack up. Attention has now shifted to potential spoilers tied to the latter.

A recent Avengers: Secret Wars report ignited fan discussion after a moment involving Mark Ruffalo. During a promotional appearance with Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry for Crime 101 (2026), Ruffalo appeared to correct Hemsworth while discussing superhero film counts, saying, “Six?” Hemsworth replied, “Yeah, but we haven’t shot that one.” Fans took the exchange as a possible confirmation that Thor appears in Secret Wars, despite speculation that the character may not survive Doomsday.
Ruffalo has since clarified that he will not appear in Doomsday, with his next Marvel outing set for Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) opposite Tom Holland. This is not the first time a Doomsday actor has seemingly spoiled the movie.
Plot specifics for Doomsday remain unclear. Reports suggest the story follows Doom crossing paths with heroes like The Fantastic Four, Thor, and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in an effort to stop Multiversal incursions. If the film truly represents a “new beginning” for the MCU, some familiar worlds may not make it through intact.
