Disney Under Fire After Hulu Cancellation, Triggers Massive Boycott

Something finally gave way. After Disney’s latest cash grab, longtime subscribers aren’t just complaining anymore—they’re walking away. Across social media and comment sections, users are openly discussing the cancellation of Disney+, stating they’ve reached their limit. Years of price increases, slow content rollouts, and confusing changes were tolerated because the service still felt worthwhile. Now, many say that feeling is gone.

What makes this backlash different is that it didn’t happen overnight. It built slowly, frustration stacking on top of frustration. To understand why this reaction feels so intense, it helps to remember what Disney+ originally promised—and how far it has drifted from that vision.

When Disney+ Felt Easy and Worth It

At launch, Disney+ sold itself on simplicity. It offered a clean interface, an affordable price, and a massive library built around familiar brands. Classic animation sat next to Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel. Everything felt organized and accessible.

That approach worked early on. Families appreciated the value. Fans liked knowing exactly where Disney-owned content lived. Even the original series felt like a bonus rather than an obligation. However, as Disney expanded its presence in streaming, the service began to ask more of its subscribers—more money, more time, and more attention.

That shift quietly changed the relationship between Disney+ and its audience.

Slow Storytelling Is Wearing People Down

One of the most common complaints focuses on pacing. Weekly episode releases aren’t new, but many subscribers feel Disney+ originals don’t justify the wait. Shows often move slowly while trying to juggle high-stakes storytelling.

As one viewer explained, “I think my problem with Disney+ Originals’ weekly release schedule is that their story develops too slowly. These shows move at the speed of a sitcom, but try to convey the action and intricate story lines of interconnected blockbuster movies.”

Instead of building excitement, that pacing leaves viewers frustrated—especially when seasons are short and long gaps separate new releases.

Marvel No Longer Feels Optional

Marvel once drove excitement for Disney+. Now, it’s fueling burnout. Many subscribers feel overwhelmed by how closely Marvel shows tie into the larger MCU timeline. What once felt optional now feels required.

One fan summed it up: “The movies will often expect the audience to have seen most of the shows… and while they will acknowledge that not everyone has seen these shows, they’ll often have bad exposition to bring up those who didn’t watch the shows up to speed.” Another added simply, “Marvel made a mistake branching out into television.”

For casual viewers, keeping up has started to feel like homework rather than entertainment.

Price Increases Are Forcing Decisions

Pricing complaints often overlap with other issues. Subscribers who joined years ago are stunned by how much their monthly bill has grown. Several say they were already considering canceling before this moment.

“Been considering canceling for a while, and I think this is going to push me over the edge,” one wrote. Another warned, “These services are going to price themselves out of business.” One longtime user tracked the increase and said, “I canceled my subscription when I noticed that the price I was paying more than doubled since 2019.”

With multiple streaming services competing for the same budget, Disney+ is no longer an automatic choice.

Hulu Concerns Are Adding Pressure

Disney’s handling of Hulu has intensified those frustrations. Many subscribers worry that growing control limits choice and nudges users toward bundles they don’t want.

Some say they “hate that this is happening” because it messes with options. Others fear what comes next. Many believe that in the future, package options won’t allow subscribers to choose one service without the other. “If they screw up my combo, I’ll cancel it all,” one user warned.

That uncertainty is pushing people to act now rather than wait.

Even Using the App Feels Like a Chore

Beyond content and pricing, frustration extends to the app itself. Users regularly describe it as “glitchy,” say they “hate using it,” and call it a “big fat confusing mess of an app.”

When the experience itself becomes annoying, it reinforces every other complaint.

Why This Backlash Feels Different

Disney has weathered criticism before, but this moment feels heavier. Complaints overlap and reinforce one another. For many subscribers, the Hulu situation wasn’t the core problem—it was the trigger.

Unless Disney simplifies its approach and rebuilds trust, this wave of cancellations is likely to continue growing.
