Magic Kingdom Rope Drop Guests Will Not Be Allowed on Attraction Amid Extreme Safety Warnings
Central Florida is preparing for extreme weather.

A powerful cold front is sweeping into Central Florida, triggering rare weather alerts and forcing operational changes at some of the region’s largest theme park resorts. State and local officials are warning of dangerous overnight conditions, with temperatures and wind chills expected to dip far below what most visitors typically experience in the Sunshine State.
Forecasters say this is not the usual quick Florida cooldown. Instead, the system is expected to bring extended periods of low temperatures, stiff winds, and freeze-level conditions overnight. Travelers and residents alike are being advised to reduce time outdoors, safeguard exposed plumbing and landscaping, and stay alert for weather-related schedule changes.

Local coverage is emphasizing just how serious this weather event could be. As Click Orlando reports: “ORLANDO, Fla. – An Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for all of Central Florida, along with a Freeze Warning and Wind Advisory, as dangerous conditions move in this weekend,” Click Orlando writes. “The Freeze and Extreme Cold warnings are in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday, while the Wind Advisory runs from 3 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday.”
Theme parks are already responding. Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort have both shut down their water parks and will keep them closed through the weekend due to the combination of cold air and strong winds. Water attractions are especially sensitive to temperature swings, and closures are standard practice when conditions could present a risk to guests.

At Magic Kingdom, one of the park’s newest attractions is also seeing a modified schedule. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the park’s log flume ride, is currently listed to open later than usual over the next several days. From Saturday, January 31, through Monday, February 2, the attraction is set to open at 11 a.m. rather than at rope drop. The regular 9 a.m. opening time is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Disney has not officially stated that the delayed opening is tied to the cold weather, but the timing lines up with the incoming freeze conditions. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure takes guests on a musical river journey alongside Princess Tiana and her friends, featuring new songs, advanced animatronics, and large scenic environments. The attraction uses the same ride path and core system as Splash Mountain, which it replaced.

That changeover remains a frequent topic among Disney fans. Splash Mountain operated for decades and drew inspiration from Disney’s 1946 film Song of the South, which has faced long-standing criticism over racist depictions and themes. Disney reimagined the ride around The Princess and the Frog (2009) as part of a broader push toward updated and more inclusive storytelling.
Fan reaction continues to be mixed. Many guests welcome the focus on Princess Tiana and the new storyline, while others still express attachment to the former version. A smaller but outspoken segment has labeled the retheme a “woke” move by Disney.
With freeze alerts, heavy winds, and ride schedule changes in place, park guests heading out this weekend may need to prepare for something unusual in Central Florida: a theme park day where the biggest obstacle isn’t the line length, but the cold.
