Disney’s Most Hated Park Just Hit a Major Milestone With Surprising Announcements
Disney California Adventure is marking its 25th anniversary in 2026 with limited-time offerings including returning attractions, special food, and exclusive merchandise. The park opened on February 8, 2001, as the youngest Disney theme park in the United States.
Soarin’ Over California Returns to the Park
The original Soarin’ Over California attraction returns for a limited run from February 6 through July 1, 2026. One of the park’s opening day attractions, the experience takes guests on a virtual tour of California landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite National Park, Palm Springs, and downtown Los Angeles.
Soarin’ Over California was replaced by Soarin’ Around the World in 2016, but fans have consistently requested the return of the California-focused version. On July 2, Soarin’ Across America debuts in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Character Overlays and Food
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will wear new anniversary outfits on Buena Vista Street beginning February 6. The costumes feature sun motifs and vibrant colors referencing the park’s opening themes.
Schmoozies serves a cake shake from February 6-15, featuring strawberry icing, sprinkles, whipped topping, and a cake slice.
Anniversary Merchandise
The Pixar Pal-A-Round Bucket is the signature novelty item. Modeled after the iconic Ferris wheel, it features “Magic Inside” technology that reacts to specific park locations, changing color and lighting patterns. The effects enhance storytelling and amplify nighttime spectaculars.
Available beginning February 6 while supplies last through mobile order at select locations, Fairfax Market, Mortimer’s Market, and popcorn carts.
The 25th Anniversary Collection includes apparel and three collectible pins available at Elias & Co., Gone Hollywood, and Seaside Souvenirs. The artwork features park icons such as the Carthay Circle tower, Pixar Pal-A-Round, and Grizzly Peak.
On February 8, guests with valid park tickets may receive complimentary commemorative maps while supplies last.
Grand Californian Hotel Anniversary
Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa celebrates its 25th anniversary. The first Disney hotel located inside a theme park, it welcomed guests on January 2, 2001.
Humphrey the Bear makes his first Disney Parks appearance at Storytellers Cafe beginning February 6 during Donald’s Tales of Adventure dinner buffet. The character from Disney animated shorts inspired Humphrey’s Service & Supplies at California Adventure.

Downtown Disney District
Downtown Disney District opened on January 12, 2001. An anniversary tote and pin featuring the district’s new logo are available at World of Disney.
Select restaurants serve specialty items, including Bananas Foster beignets at Beignets Expressed, French “70” cocktail at Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill, macaron croissants at Kayla’s Cake, and Incredi-Bitz at Wetzel’s Pretzels.
Park History
Disney California Adventure has evolved significantly since 2001. The original park celebrated California history through various lands, including the Boardwalk and Buena Vista Street.
Major additions transformed the park, including Cars Land with Radiator Springs Racers, redesigned entrance, Pixar Pier, Avengers Campus, and San Fransokyo Square.
Future expansions announced at the D23 Expo include a Coco boat ride and an Avengers Campus expansion featuring Avengers: Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab attractions.
