Rip-Off: Disney World Sells Dollar Spot Souvenir for 400% Markup

There’s a new souvenir at Walt Disney World Resort, and it’s only $4.99…However, the same item is available at Target stores around the country for five times less. Here’s how to avoid overpaying for at least one impulse purchase at the Central Florida Disney parks.

On January 27, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @Kdodgers24 spotted what initially appeared to be one of the most affordable souvenir options at Walt Disney World Resort. The theme park guest shared two images of a new display of rubber ducks in Disney character-inspired costumes in the Emporium at the Magic Kingdom:

We have a new merchandise line-disney ducks for $5

The rubber ducks, priced at $4.99 each, wear outfits inspired by Donald Duck, Elsa, Ariel, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Olaf, Maleficent, the aliens from Toy Story (1995), and more.

It’s always nice to see a souvenir at Walt Disney World Resort for under $5, especially one that appeals to the youngest Disney Park guests. Unfortunately, these rubber ducks are anything but a good deal.

For at least a year, the same manufacturer has supplied identical rubber ducks to Target stores across the United States. They’re usually available in the Bullseye’s Playground area at the front of the store, formerly known as the Dollar Spot. There, each Disney character-inspired duck costs $1.

In 2025, the company expanded the line with seasonal Disney ducks, like these Christmas-themed versions of Stitch, Angel, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey Mouse:

Earlier in the year, Redditor u/Beowulfie696 shared photos of Halloween ducks inspired by Stitch, Mickey Mouse, Scar, Maleficent, and Cruella de Vil:

Right now, the Target website shows a Valentine’s Day-themed Mickey Mouse duck for $1. More characters, including non-seasonal versions, are available at your local store.

Of course, guests expect to pay a premium for merchandise, food, and beverages at the Central Florida Disney parks…Just don’t let this 400% markup be your impulse purchase at Walt Disney World Resort, because you might regret it when you walk into Target back home!
