‘The Land Before Time’ Remake Shares Magical First Teaser

A new independent remake of The Land Before Time is underway, with filmmaker Joey Lever sharing a first teaser of the 3D animated Littlefoot in action.

Lever recently shared a video showing the beloved long-necked dinosaur in action. While we don’t get to see any footage from the film, the animation gives us a solid idea about what we can expect. Unlike the original 1988 2D animated film, Littlefoot will be told entirely in 3D animation. Watch the clip below:

Lever explained his creative approach in a behind-the-scenes featurette shared last year. saying, “We’re trying to ground the tactile realism of live action with the expressive shape language of Pixar. The lighting is moody, the environments are filled with atmosphere, smoke, dust, debris. We just wanted to create a different kind of visual style that even the king Don Bluth [director of the original 1988 film] would approve of.”

The full voice cast has already been confirmed, with young British actress Summer-Joules Saunders lending her voice to the title character.

The original 1988 film, directed by Don Bluth and executive produced by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, follows Littlefoot, a young dinosaur on a dangerous journey to the Great Valley after an earthquake destroys his home. Its enduring popularity led to 13 sequels and an animated series, securing its place as a cherished animated classic.

However, unlike several other animated films, The Land Before Time has yet to get any sort of remake. Though unofficial, Littlefoot will at least give fans an idea as to how a modern interpretation of the beloved 1988 film could look.

While Littlefoot will only be 15 minutes long due to budget limitations, Lever assures fans it’s treated “with the care and emotion of a full-length project.”

No release date has been set, but the teaser offers the first glimpse of the beloved character brought to life in a new 3D animated style.
